"Van Gundy even lauds Redick's defense. Critics said it was his glaring weakness, ripping the Magic for using their No. 1 pick in 2006 to pick him. He'll never be a lockdown defender, but Van Gundy says Redick is tough, smart and misses fewer defensive assignments than almost anyone on the club."

SVG,

Didn't Otis tell you the trading deadline is over? Or are you just getting ready to try and dump JJ in the offseason?

I've never heard such a pile of crap.

JJ still stinks on D.

Are there any GM's out there who now think JJ is a good defender? If so, come on in and make an offer!

All that really matters is what SVG thinks - if he gets the play out of Redick that he wants, who else cares. The team is playing better than they have in years.

By the way Stan,

I think you are an unbelievable coach. We are lucky to have you.

However, I am perplexed by all this recent pro-JJ rhetoric and the increased playing time you have given JJ.

I know you see what we, as fans, all see. JJ doesn't play good D.

Defenders lick-their-chops when they see JJ guarding them. In fact, IMO JJ was the number-one reason we lost to Detroit. Rip Hamilton had a field day aganist JJ.

So, why are you playing JJ? Are you getting pressure from management?

JJ may be a great guy, but HE IS COSTING US GAMES.

And I know you know that!

OH ... also, JJ needs to watch his own video: "Better Basketball DVDs:Better Shooting 2".

You can find it on ebay for $24.95. Yes $24,95 (list is $29,95) for this EXPERT ADVICE.

Buy it and you can shoot 41%.

Finally ... "Redick the facilitator?"

He has 58 assists this season. WOW what a facilitator (NOTE: JJ has played in 52 games).

To compare, Rafer Alston has 83 assists in 15 Magic games!

And to make it even worse, in the same number of games, JJ has 45, yes 45 turnovers!!!

He's now a FACILITATOR!

Even Casey Anthony's PR agency wouldn't write this crap.

Just found a better deal for JJ's video -$19.95 and you get - not one - but FOUR SHAMWOO's - for free. Two for the bath and two for the kitchen.

You can even dry your dog with these. The ShamWoo's, not the video.

Sorry Vince,

I should have "been aware of imitators".

The ShamWoo's were not made in Germany, but in Bithlo. They didn't get up the spilled wine on my rug either!

All I got was this lousy video.

Dr. James Naismith, great posts...

I do believe that JJ's defense has improved. Yes, he's not a good one on one defender and yes, some players might be licking their chops, but he seems to "Get" what team defense is all about.

I think we are also seeing he's a decent passer. He's not an assist guy, but makes good passes and spaces the floor well. The guy's got a good basketball IQ.

Now, as far as his shooting, I don't know where his shot has gone to. I keep waiting for him to have a great shooting game, but I can only remember a few games where he made even 1/2 his shots.

Let's Go Magic!!!

Redick has been working so hard on everything else his pure shooting touch has gone away from him. Not only that, but if you ever notice in college, he had to take a lot of shots before he started to find a rhythm. For him, it's all about that catch and shoot timing. He can't find it on one or two shots. Not only that, but I have a feeling he still doubts himself and whether he should pass or shoot when he gets the ball and has an open look. When that happens, and your confidence is down, it throws off your game. So much of shooting, especially when in slumps, is all in the mind. When he has that green light though and that confidence, he looks excellent. I remember he made a long 3 and the whole crowd cheered and next time down the floor, they ran a screen play for him, and even though he had a defender right in his face, he shot the ball and got nothing but net. So much of it is whether he believes he should shoot or not. I truly believe most of it's in his head.

Whats the deal with all of the JJ-haters? The kid has improved his game so give him credit where its due. Nobody is saying that he's an all-star, considering he may have been on his way out of the league just last season he's come a long way. Being a REAL Magic fan myself (unlike someone on the west coast), I have noticed that when he's on the flor the ball movement is fluid. The guy is no ball-hog, is crafty, and spreads the floor for D12. Shooters are at a premium in this league, and the reason that he goes through shooting slumps is b/c SVG takes him in/out of the lineup. Shooters have to play consistent minutes to find a rythm (imagine SVG doing that to Lewis), and his defense is very much improved. I can argue that JJ has been better for this team than MP has been this season. If not for the contract he signed in the offseason MP probably would be out of the rotation. I'm an African American who believes that JJ catches some of the critism b/c he's white and went to Duke, If he were black and played for UNC the hating wouldn't exist.

If I recall we didn't play that well against Detroit when JJ was on the bench.

41% is actually pretty good.

So what you're saying is that Otis & DeVos want to lose on purpose?

"Cocoa Beach Fan" - Thanks

"Liberals are Crazy" -

(1) You are right, we didn't play well aganist Detroit when JJ was on the bench either, but in this last game, that's where he belonged. Everything else was OK except his D on Rip.

(2) Only one player with as many minutes, with our team this year, as JJ, has a worst shooting percentage - Hedo (,408) Ask him if he's having a good year. I don't articles about how well he's playing, hmmm?

(3) I don't think Otis and SVG want us to lose, but I do think there is pressure from Otis to play JJ. I just don't believe SVG would allow some of the stuff I see from JJ happen with another player - like Keith Bogans, for example.

Go Magic!

Great post. The only thing I disagree with you on is that a great shooter needs consistent minutes. Only rythym shooters need consistent minutes. A great shooter can come in & shoot in any situation. Steve Kerr didn't need consistent minutes.

I think it may be just the opposite, if he were black and played this way - he'd be flippin burgers at Micky D's.

He may be playing because he's white.

Hey Otis, call the Celtics, they always are looking for slow white guys.

And a final footnote...

From ESPN about last night's game vs. NY:

"Then Richardson took over again, overpowering J.J. Redick on the other end en route to eight points in the quarter that cut the Knicks' deficit to 59-52 at the half."

Nice victory last night. Go Magic!

No,you're not reporting ESPN's opinion. ESPN also reported that his +/- for the game was +12. Proving the author and SVG right. For some reason you didn't include that.

Why would Otis demand that JJ be played if he wanted to shop him?? So JJ would look bad and the team would lose?
