Stan-ding trial on TNT

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Stan Van Gundy did not panic Wednesday. How he brought the Orlando Magic back from a shell-shocked first-half waxing to a respectable second-half comeback showed patience and shrewdness from Van Gundy.

"In some respects for the Magic, this series is more about proving Van Gundy's coaching ability as it is proving the team's legitimacy."

I completely disagree with this statement.. BUT, your article did just get some mike and mike love.

Stan has transformed this team into a contender. The difference between him and the turgid Brian Hill is night and day.

Agree with the last three comments.
Talk about panic? All of the Stan hating that has been going on the last few weeks is 'panic'.
I ask again, who does Orlando get to coach that is better than SVG?
That's what I thought.
SVG is Great for Orlando!

SVG is a good coach. He is by no means the prototype coach, but he gets that job done. Good to see some love from Doug Collins (and Barkley) from TNT. ESPN is trying to do everthing that they can to save face after their golden boy LeBron lost last night. I don't think there is one analyst at ESPN in the Magic corner. They constantly hate on the Magic.

people are saying the will win in 5 or 6, if the magic win Friday-I predict a sweep-that's right a sweep. If the magic win friday, their confidence, morale, and swagger will be flowing. The cavs will be in shock mode and desperate like a housewife-LOL! The cave aren't used to being in this position-the spurs swept them a few years back!

Your prediction and five cents will get you five cents. Let's not crown them champs yet, Charlie Brown.

This win has to be huge for the Magic, not just cause they won the first game of the series and now have home court advantage, but the way in which they won, fighting hard the entire game AND listening to the coach and following his plan.

Do the Magic players now have more faith in Van Gundy? You'd have to think so, and that's a good thing.

I wish Miami could get SVG back. Yes he can be too honest and come off harsh to his players but noone is better at the X and O's.

Mike Brown got schooled last night.

Can't the Sentinel afford a decent editor? Look at the bad grammar here:

"...this series is more about proving Van Gundy's coaching ability as it is proving the team's legitimacy. "

It should be either 'more about'...'than it is' or 'as much about'...''as it is'

That was a huge win but I don't see a sweep. I hope they learned from their loss in Boston after they won the first game. I am sure Lebron is going to be very sore and lethargic after last nights game. If I were the Magic, I would attack from the start. These playoffs have been tests for the Magic ball club and from each test, they have become more mature and better from them. We'll see tomorrow night if this continues.

This article is pretty much complete crap. The Magic now have the experience of 14 playoff games, they are driven to go further into the post season and they are playing like they are capable of playing. The players are doing what they have been doing all year and so is SVG. No one is trying to prove anything or redeem any previous actions. Its all working well and Otis Smith is looking like a genius.

All those previous collapses during the first two series... all those 18 point collapses... those ended up being a great motivation tool for SVG to use for last night. Even down 15, he seemed relatively calm, and that trickled down to the rest of the players.

And I hope he uses the 2SGs/2SFs 4th quarter lineup more often (Howard, Lewis, Turk, MP, Lee). By only having one play maker on the floor, Hedo focused on distributing (14 assists). And on the defensive end, they had the length to force Cleveland to slow their ball movement. Excellent job for SVG.

When Hedo jumped into Andy V for the foul all I could do was thank Paul Pierce for teaching him that. I just hope the refs get better (more fair and not so pro clev) in the next game.
