Howard now has burden of franchise -- OrlandoSentinel.com

OK, big fella, it's all on you now. In the last two days, the Magic have spent more than $200 million to pay for Dwight Howard and tooverpay for his new sidekick, Rashard Lewis. Read more

Yep mike its the truth man we may have overpaid but we had too. Lewis was only going to come here if we gave him a max deal because some other team would have if we didnt. And as for the Howard thing another move we had to make cant let another superstar slip from our hands. I like the Magics commitment to getting and keeping the best talent. GO OTIS!!!! you the man baby. Now all we need is another big to replace Darko like a Dale Davis or Maglore. Also we need a Guard i would look at the Warriors MIKAL PIETRUS he has great upside could be the next T-Mac and we could get him here for cheap at this point. Otis nice start to the off season now lets finish this thing up strong. Were just a couple players away from a championship.....

were you drunk when you wrote this article? Lewis is a great fit but the magic outbid themselves for him. The bobcats were basicly the only team with the capablilty of offering lewis the deal the Magic did and they had no interest in doing. So what the Magic did was pull a sign and trade to make the deal they already closed more costly and longer. Can I have your job?

The key is less turnovers from the point guard and the Dukie turns into Dennis Scott.

Teams were courting Rashard up until Wednesday morning. The Houston Rockets were still majorly going after him with sign and trade offers. You are always going to overpay for the top free agent on the market. We could have payed out tons of money to a much less skilled player.
Bianchi, nice job on bashing the Magic, as usual. Say hi to your illegitimate father, the comic book character Two Face.

what do you mean he only would've gone to orlando for the max? no other team was paying him the max (not even seattle). plus, back in february (during the season) he interviewed with a reporter in boston and said that he wanted to go to the eastern conference. Also, he specificially mentioned that he liked orlando, and the possibility of playing with dwight. so, we KNEW he wanted to come here, and still outbid against no other team.

plus, reports show that houston's offer was more dreaming than ever becoming a reality. sure, every team wants kg too, but what serious offers are there? espn's chad ford has a great article about 5 rules for managing the salary cap, and mentions how the magic broke every rule in signing rashard. http://myespn.go.com/conversation/story...

just hope the magic can win with dwight, lewis, and jameer, because this is the team for the next 6 years with different role players mixed throughout (and sadly, this years team will probably be the best set of role player we ever get).

Mike, who are you kidding??? You would criticize every last player on the Magic whether they make 15 mil a year or 5 k. You are by far the most negative sports writer anywhere. Every article (OK maybe just 19 out of 20) you write seems to somehow attack someone, whether it be a coach, GM, owner or player(s). Maybe you should post your resume on Monster and maybe Philly or Beantown will give you a job and team you up with all the whiners thay already have up there. Or at least ask your boss for a three week vacation and maybe you'll come back a little more positive - there's definitely room for it in your negative little world, Napoleon!!!!!!!!!!

Mike,

Great closing line. "This $200 million will be better spent than the last $200 million." That's just great. At least we're still trying, right?

Im very happy with Smith and the magic. They didnt over pay for this kid He is very talented.I bet His scoring avg. goes up by at least 5 pts. We needed a scorer last year. And I think with JJ stepping in He will shock the media world. Also I would love to see the Magic go after maglore. This kid was a all star. I think this team could win 5o games next year. Good Job Magic as usual bad job reporting on Them.

I don't look at players money, it's the energy. Or synergy. Dwight and Rashard...It sounds good. Real good. So what your 200 million chump change...It's all a rediculously expensive game huh? Should I pay it mind?

Watch our team improve with a different style of play. We have roster spots open which means SVG will have a chance to show his ability to pick talent, JJ will be a role player similiat to 3D and Ariza will bloom in the new offense. I think Gotat is all we will need at center and allows Dwight to move to the four. I don't think we have a starting point guard. I would love to see us acquire Steve Blake. Put the right pieces together and we could win fifty games this year.

I think the Magic have made great decisions here. Shows how committed they are to winning they are trying to do everything they can to get good players here to win a Championship. I think next season will be awesome. I love the fact that Dwight wants to stay here until he retires. That shows good loyalty. Something sports seem to be missing sometimes.

and really have no assurances that they will be any better next season? so all of a sudden in a weaker east, rashard will average less then he did in the west? And you get paid to write this crap?

You seem to have found a niche in unjustifiably whining about as much as you can. In most cases, you are inconsiderate, selfish, narrow minded and much more. Hopefully someone finds their way to replacing you because your columns are beginning to truly sicken me.

Actually he doesn't act too much like a child...he's having fun instead of being stuck up and arrogant like most big head money making players. He's grounded and he knows when where and how to play and have fun and he knows when its time to be serious!!! life's too short for the nit picking at someone thats just being the person they are and plus he's still young and enjoying what God has Blessed him with which is talent and a great personality...get a grip!!! Don't hate the player hate the game........

Dwight just like Shaq knows how to have fun and take care of business thats how this game should be played. Who want a bunch of Drones out there playing we want to see these guys have fun...
