Orlando ties its best 20-game start but knows it's early

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Why, of course, it's too early to even ask, ridiculously early, but here goes: Is this the best Orlando Magic team that we've seen since Shaquille O'Neal left for Los Angeles? Could it become the greatest Magic ...

I read an interview with Turk saying how he would like to make the All-Star team, and at the same time liked flying under the radar, and able to sneak up on other teams.
If he keeps playing the way his is now, he's going to have a hard time being invisible. You have to love this guy. Also, Playing under SVG the "blue flu" seems to have disappeared.
As far as being snubbed in this article, who isn't with Schmidts writing it? The Sentinel's sports is really needs an overhaul. What do you guys consider a "quality win"?
"Their lone losses are to the Suns (twice), the Spurs and the Pistons, contenders all. They've beaten everybody else, though true quality wins are few (Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and perhaps the New Orleans Hornets)".
Give us a break Brian.
No doubt about it. If the Golden State Game (winners of 9/10 before we BEAT them) and the Lakers (10 years since we won in LA), aren't quality games, then I don't know what is.

Brian Schmidt and Bianchi are both douche bags!

So funny hearing that Fran Vasquez is the missing link. The missing link for what? He sucks. He has raw offense, it's skinny as hell and his only real strenght is his defense. He shoots worse than Darko Milicic.
And guess what, he knows he sucks. He will never go to America if he isn't improving. His high might go in Europe, but it's a different story in the Nba.

He's not even on the same team, that signed for, when he refused the Magic.

Nice to see Trevor Ariza had a nice game with the Lakers the other night against the Timberwolves.

15pts 5reb 4asst 1bs and no turnovers in 27 minutes.

Still glad we made that trade! It was good for both teams.

Hey, let us keep flying under the radar. Orlando will get its props eventually. National tv exposure will come later in the season when schedules are more penciled in and subject to change.
I agree that Vazquez may be the missing link for this team. I believe he would fit our style of play pretty well, bringing decent hard-nosed defense, rebounding and blocking, and a bit of scoring ability to the backup center spot. And eventually could make a decent twin tower with Dwight. I hope that Otis Smith is sending him game tapes and love letters weekly. Heck, if I could find his email address I'd be begging him to come on over. But even if we have to wait until next year for him, the future looks very bright for the Magic.
And a big thank you to the Miami Heat for making SVG step down as head coach so Pat Riley could relive some of his former glory days. Stan is THE MAN! Should have gotten coach of the month over Doc.
Go Magic!!!!!
I kind of like flying under the radar, but it kind of bums me out too. I want the team to get the credit they deserve.

I'm a huge White Sox fan and when they won the World Series in 2005 (and had the 2nd best record in baseball and lead their division from start to finish), nobody talked about them all year long, they flew under the radar and then took over the post season and won every game except one! Let's hope if the Magic can do the same thing!

Radu, thanks for the info, I don't think many of us Magic fans even know what we have in Vazquez except a big body. How's his team doing, what kind of stats is he averaging over in Europe? IMO, I don't ever think he will be playing in the NBA and if he does, he will be warming the bench with very limited playing time.

Radu your from Europe so would know more about Vazquez than me but I saw a highlights package on youtube and he looked very solid. Obviously you would want to look good in a highlights video but he was posting up, shooting threes, running the floor and defending good - which would be perfect for the Magic. As for him being at a different team now, I thought FC Barcelona would be one of the elite Spanish clubs? We're a solid defending and shooting power forward away from being a bona fide contender, so I live in hope that Vazquez will join the Magic and be that player!

His club, Barcelona is doing fine, not only one of the elite clubs of Spain but the entire Europe. They won the Spanish Cup last year. And Unicaja Malaga (Vasquez's previous team, won it 2 years ago). But I'm talking about him, with regards to the Nba's PF and C. They are much mobile and bigger, also they defend better. Sure, the bigs in Europe shoot the ball better.
In comparison, Mario Kasun is doing great here.
So don't expect for Fran to be our saviour. He will need to adjust to the game or he will ride the far end of the bench like Gortat.
And I remember that the Magic also considered drafting him for his potential...well, if he's not here, there is no potential.

I need everyone to calm down on Fran Vasquez. I still remember that draft and being extremely disapointed when we picked him. Our team and Otis is much better at putting pieces together through free agency rather than the draft. I'm still not thrilled with JJ Redick. The key in all this is that we are playing like a team under SVG. Now that we have a team that wants to LEARN how to play like a team and with no egos we are virtually unstopable. Otis has us moving in the right direction. Plus with this new gym we are getting in 2-3 years and Orlando being a great place to live in general,(native of Central Florida myself) we will have no problem attracting free agents to come here for less money, mainly because we have the potential to win many championships in the future. And maybe we can get some national TV air time! Shout out to all the MAGIC fans, this is how we do!(we win baby)

the reason this team will be better than the Shaq/Penny Magic is easy. Stan Van Gundy is an amazingly underrated coach. Brian Hill was in the bottom 15 while SVG is easily top 5.

i have yet to see anything compare to young shaq and his 30ppg though, not even Dwight and the great season he is having.

I'm living in Barcelona, and see Vazquez playing a lot of time.
My opinion: no way he can immediately help the team, i don't see him as the missing link.

His stats:
mins: 14 (very little time...)
pts: 5,5
reb: 2
ass: 0,5

If you want to check his stats in the future:
http://www.liga-acb.es/jugador.php...

Kasun is playing a little better in the same amount of time (9 pts 5 reb)

I think that the missing link for the team is already playing in the NBA, Luis Scola, the best "european" pf in the last few years...
