It just goes to show you that we are all in this for just the money

If he was a real guy and loved to coach, he would stay @FLorida, but now we see what it takes to motivate people

Hey guys, it's me Billy Donovan.
How about cutting a guy a little slack here. If you were offered a job paying you 60% more than your present employer, and could stay rather close to home, are you telling me you wouldn't take it? Don't fault me for having a gift coaching basketball. By taking the big payday, I'm doing what's best for me and my family. Let's face it, if I get fired after one or two seasons, I still pocket the rest of the money and can retire in peace and harmony for the rest of my life.
Are you telling me if I screw up in the NBA, I won't be able to get a job at UCF, and stay in Orlando, please.

This will be interesting to watch. Without Billy, Florida's basketball officially goes into the crapper. This will be a sub-.500 team next year and will now struggle to rebuild. Also, Billy will make little difference in Orlando. Everybody knows that the NBA is a player's league, and I say that Billy is closer to being the next Rick Pitino than the next Pat Riley. He'll be back in college within three years and will have his pick of programs to coach.

We'll miss Billy terribly, but I can't knock the guy for going to the pro's. I appreciate everything he did to build our program at UF, and hope he does well at the NBA.

Having said that --

WAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Don't go, Billy!

I don't agree with you. I'm not in a position to disagree cuz time will tell but... I think it's a little early to start making predictions about the future of our basketball team before you even know who the next coach will be. Second, we have a great young team of existing players and one of the top recruiting classes in the country coming in. Until you know if these players are going to commit elsewhere or stay, you can't say that we'll be rebuilding. If they stay, our future is pretty strong. And Third, the reputation of the Gators athletic program as a whole, a top notch program int he country, we'll be just fine. it's simply a step back to move forward. The crapper? You've got us confused with Miami's football program.

Thanks for the great years and good luck in the NBA coach Donovan.

As we have seen with the Football programs post Spurrier, the Gator Nation will survive.

Thanks to Coach "D" for bringing us to the pinnacle of college hoops (2x and then some!!!!)...the NBA guaranteed $$$ is just too much to pass up and the "itch" as a coach that makes you think you can DO IT at the highest level.....Now, here's a crazy thought......I'd love to go after Bruce Pearl (Tenn. coach) for head coach...high energy, can recruit nationally.....gotta go call Jeremy F. cya..
