Well, looks like Darko is leaving Orlando. It's next to impossible for Magic to sign both Darko and Lewis. If Darko really wants to stay with the team and play with two superstars, he'll have to lower his offer and get what Magic can give him.

magic shouldnt overpay lewis

milicic is really young and hes still developing, give him some playign time and you'll see, cuz when he played in serbia (national team) he avged a lot of points, rebs and blocks just cuz he played more mins, and odnt sya internationl b-ball is easier when u play against a team liek spain or argentina or a stacked team such as the US

i hope magic get darko cuz he'll prolly be starting next season so that menas more playing time for darko

Darko is not all he is hyped up to be.
He is mediocre at best and is not deserving of the money he wants. I hope the magic can work out something like a sign and trade for him and get something in return.

Darko being a restricted free agent puts the Magic in the driver's seat. If any team has any serious offer to Darko, and the Magic really want him, they can simply match. Problem for Darko is he hasn't shown any team he is worth a $6 million+ contract. My next concern is verbal commitments are not contracts. If Lewis HAS told the Magic he'll be here next season, Seattle might panic and offer something he may not be able to refuse, and playing alongside Durant is not a bad consolation prize. A week is a long time, and anything can happen. We've been burned once with the coaching situation, and almost cost us two coaches. Ignoring Darko and relying on a verbal agreement from the most sought after free agent this year could hurt us.

Not only are we going to get both Darko and Lewis, we're going to get someone else too.

How?

Make Seattle think we are dumping Darko and signing Lewis straight up. Force Seattle into sign and trade for Lewis. S/T Grant Hill. Resign Darko to something reasonable to both parties. Use the exception that we will still recieve, because thanks to the S/T's we are still over the cap, to sign someone else!

I don't care what Orlando does, just as long as they don't suck.

I suggest you watch the European Pre-Olympic Tournament. There Darko is used as a strong forward. They exploit his long range shooting and his rebounding and his atletism. One thing the Serbian does not forced Darko to do is to play back to the board as the Brian Hill moron forced this young to play through the season. Darko is much better than what people think. Now reaching mental matureness and building up his body and game he is short term project which can produce for any team right away. If Orlando gives him away this club will be sorry and wailing for many years to come. I personally feel that Darko is gone and I know he will become a strong presence elsewhere...another magic trick from the Magic front office, they simply disappeared another good player!!!

All I know is the excitement I feel for the possibility of signing Lewis is being drowned out by the disappointment I feel about the prospect of losing Darko. We need them both to be contenders and right now its not looking so good.

This is BS! The Magic needs to work a sign and trade deal with the Sonics, maybe something like Bogans, Garrity and a first round draft pick for Lewis, letting Darko go will be one of the worst FA move in the history of the NBA in the last 10 years.

ESPN is now saying that Lewis is coming to Orlando. Let's hope he's worth the dough, and the loss of Darko likely.

Orl71... I had the same reaction to the Howard quote about Grant having done enough.
I don't think he meant it sarcastically, but it still made laugh so hard I almost spit up my oatmeal.

i agree with the sign and trade talk for lewis, and trying to keep darko, but what about trying to get ridnour also, seattle wants to rebuild and we need assists, send nelson and bogans packing if anything.

'Bout sums it up for me exactly. I've been praying that the Magic work out a sign and trade with Seattle that includes Turkolu. First, with Lewis here, we have a logjam at SF between him and Turk. Second, His $6.4 mil, is right about the price the Magic should have to pay Darko to stay (which is higher than the mid-level exception 27 of the 30 teams can offer without doing a sign and trade) but not too much more. The magic may have to give up more than that to satisfy Seattles demands. But if Otis can pull that off we get Lewis and Darko (and we so need to keep Darko). Seattle gets Turkolu to fill the veteran presence at SF while Durant matures (yes I know that Durant starts immediately but it still helps to have a vet there as well). His salary is reasonable for his skill level as well. Further Seattle get a trade exception for the amount they give up in salary for Lewis contract that they don't take back from the Magic. And don't underestimate the value of a trade exemption for a rebuilding team like Seattle.

I hope it happens.

Dwight is not being sarcastic. He's simply saying that Grant Hill has done so much for the franchise both tangible and intangible on and off the court. He would love for him to come back, but knows Grant desires to win a championship before he retires. If Grant feels that another team could help him reach his goal, Dwight understands.

Dwight, Darko, Lewis,GWallace and Rindour will be the core of the Magic for years to come. Oh we need a point gaurd. Its in the works. They are not letting Darko go.

Turk (6.3Mil), Garrity (3.8mil), Bogans(2.7mil), Battie (5.2mil), and Arroyo (4mill) are most likely going to be shiped off. Thats 22 million. They can sign Dako to 7-8 mill and wallace 10-12 mill.

Finally, there is someone here with rational thought, research and common sense. Although he definitely isn't the perfect GM Otis has made some good moves since he took this position. In a perfect world we would not have to offer Rashard Lewis a max contract but ladies and gentlemen this is the NBA where almost every star who is not on a rookie contract is overpaid or was at some point in their career. Hopefully, Otis can play Presti's bluff and convince him to accept a sign and trade which will workout for everyone.

(Sonics get expiring contracts and maybe a trade exception, Lewis can get six years and more money, and the Magic can get Lewis and cap space to sign Darko).

And for all of those people crying about Darko. If he decides that he is worth closer to $8-10mil/yr instead of $6-8mil/yr let him go.
