If LeBron James is smart, he will separate himself from Dwayne Wade and the Heat. As long as they play for the same team, Wade will always have one more Championship. That is why going to the Lakers is also not a good move. Kobe will ride LeBron's coattails to another championship and lay claim to Jordan's six, staying 3 ahead of James. But if you want a real six you have to remember Bill Russell. Bill is the original number 6 who never promised anything other than to give his all and gave Boston not 1, not 2, not 3,......not 6, not 7, not 8,....not 10, but 11 NBA Championships, the likes of which will not be seen again. Add in the two additional rings Russell gets for being a player/coach, and his 13 rings is more than twice what Jordan achieved and in two less years of play to boot.
Funny thing but good to great players seldom rise up to be quality coaches unless they happen to be Celtics.
Russell, Heinson, K.C. Jones, Nelson, Bird. And where it not for Bill Sharman coming from the Celtics to reconfigure the Lakers, they too might never have had the Red Auerbach touch and won all those Championships.
In football they talk of coaching trees. In Basketball there is only one and it belongs to Red Auerbach and the Boston Celtics, of which Bill Russell was the original catalyst and the only number 6 I care to remember.
Since LeBron switched out of his number 23 to show respect to Jordan, on can only wonder what he is telling Bill Russell by taking his number.
On second thought, maybe LeBron is not that smart after all.

I agree that as long as LeBron is wearing number 6 that he is not honoring Jordan but disrespecting Russell. Until LeBron gets an education he will continue to make these boneheaded moves, and it is really hard to root for an idiot.
First it was his televised special identifying his move to South Beach.
Then it was his idiot comment...not 4, not 5, not 6...
Then it was his switching jersey numbers to quote unquote honor Jordan without understanding NBA History and knowing that number 6 belonged to the greatest winner of all-time, Bill Russell.
LeBron is a great basketball talent but just another athlete without a brain.
He should have showed his respect for Russell far beyond that for Jordan because....we play to win the game, and no one will ever get the 11 rings Russell earned as a player. 13 if you count his rings as a coach.
Until LeBron changes his number to show respect for Russell, there is no way I can root for him disrespecting the NBA's greatest icon.
Maybe he should go to school and get a degree in the off-season. Everyone knows, he needs it.
