I believe this is only true if BOTH teams are OVER the cap.

If the Knicks want to trade Randolph's 14.6 mil contract to the Clippers, and lets say the Clippers are 12 mil under the cap, the Clippers would then have to send off 2.6 mil off the books in return to the Knicks.
You're partially correct...

If both teams are under the cap, they can trade those salaries as long as both are under the cap after the trade is approved...

If one team is over the cap (and the Knicks are WAY OVER THE CAP), the trade wouldn't be approved regardless.

For the Knicks to make this trade, the total salaries have to be within 15%...

Cool thanks for clarifying, I was under the impression that what I said was the case.

Well, you are wrong.
Or both of these 2 reporters are.

"but it would not have to be a salary match because the Clippers are well under the cap. Randolph has three years and $48 million left on his contract."

"Terms of any proposal were not known, but the Clippers have enough salary-cap space to accept Randolph's contract without having to give the Knicks equal salaries in return."

Look, according to the trade machine on ESPN Cuttino and Thomas can be had for Randolf straight up. If they throw in Jordan we can give them next years 1rst or 2nd. Everyone is happy. The clips get rid of 3 contracts pick up one at PF where they need it. The Knicks get 2 expiring contracts in 2010, they can trade or shed Mobley.....he won't fit well with the Knicks. Jordan is exactly what the doctor ordered....an ample supply of shots.....blocked.

Garnett's no center, he plays PF. Kendrick Perkins plays the center position...

It's hard, in my view, to define the center position in the NBA today as the center and PF positions are almost interchangeable...

When Olajuwon and Sampson played together on the Rockets, it was Olajuwon who played center and Sampson was the PF...

randolph is a legit pf but how much sense does it make with baron at pg, theres noway hes gonna be running up and down the court ( which is barons style) while still being productive.. we definately need a pf, but we can do better
