Ira Winderman's All-Time Heat team

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Center Simply more of a two-way presence than Shaquille O'Neal, and his decade-plus with the franchise gives Mourning the edge.

Ira Winderman with the tiresome Shaq bashing again.

Zo never was a greater two way presence than Shaq. Zo never dominated and striked the fear of God into the opposing teams/centers the way Shaq did on both ends. Zo blocked more shots but was also challenged WAAAYY more than Shaq was. Zo is the better defensive player but never could come close to having the overall impact on the game that Shaq did.

Shaq may not right now be a force on defense but in his day you have no clue how many shots this man altered on presence alone and how many times a guard/foward would back out to the 3 pt line instead of attacking the basket when he would clog the middle. Shaq has never been dunked on straight over the top like Zo has constantly.

Zo won this vote cause he spent his prime years in Miami and is the most popular player in the Heat's history. Zo on his best day couldn't handle Shaq on his best day.

I also never recall Zo stepping up as the man when this team needed to get over the hump. I happen to remember Shaq going for 28/16/5 in Game 6 of the ECF vs the Pistons in 06.

What about Pat Cummings? Probably the greatest unsung big man in our history, edging out the great Alan Ogg.

Seems like some people are basing their views on a very limited knowledge of Heat history. Zo wins hands down because he may not ever have been the physical specimen that Shaq is, but pre kidney disease he was a monster.Only Shaq could have truly be considered more dominant than he was.Zo averaged over 20 points a game before his kidneys went and the Heat was a nightmare for every team except New York who somehow kept beating them in the playoffs.

Zo is the Heat's greatest center ever, period. Can't wait to see his jersey hanging from the rafters.

I agree with your choices Ira.

Steve Smith over Sherman Douglas- Ira you had it until the end. Steve Smith not only failed to live anywhere near his hype (the next Magic, oh besides Penny being the next Magic too), but Sherman's numbers put him pretty close to what Hardaway did with a much better team.

This is crazy. A geriatric Shaq is the best center
to ever play for the Heat. Last time I checked the Heat never won a championship without him.
