Ira good article, key word is complicitous, I.E. you couldn't engineer the dumping of the shaq contract without both Shaq and Riley being in on the con Bummer for Phoenix that paid 20 mil for the faded thunder of the Shaqman

Both Players are past their prime , carries too much ego's and thier game is certainly not missed by thier former teams. I believe the heat squeezed the last ounce of usefulness in Shaq, now he is a total bum. If Shaq is Superman then Duncan is certainly KRYPTONITE !

Lets not forget, with a healthy Dwade, Marion, Haslem, Plus our youth(without the draft pick) and a full camp, the heat is a playoff team, YOu add Rose or Beasley and whoever riley adds as a FA, and we are posied for another run like from 96-2001. Everyone is young, and we have 2 allstars(young now), WE TANKED IT. and wade was hurt, We have a better team then cleveland with a healthy wade and marion, and (pray)we get Rose, we are a top team next year. Look, we added odom and dwade and in 03, and boom, we went to the semis and took indiana 6 games. Add, d rose or beasley, and Brand or Jermain Oneil, and we are back. Shaq deserves what he is getting, but I think next year would be his last hurrahh. Boston is old, we are back next year
That 03-04 team was really fun to watch I remember that we took Indiana (top seed) to a 6 game series that year. I hope we will land where we were a few years ago and your right Boston is old Im only counting this year and next year Bawwston is back at the bottom! I wish Posey and Kapono would have stayed though.

kidd is a bum! i kinda feel bad for shaq but kidd is a has been blaming everybody else why he isnt a champ, tony parker is way better than he is , and the spurs are laughing at him because he had a chance with them a couple of years ago, he turned it down, and he turned down his chance at a championship lol ~spurs fan for life

I read the Sentinel and the Miami Herald sports section daily. There was a time when your articles were well written and incisive. Recently that has not been the case. Your articles have been shallow and dissapointing. The Miami Herald's columnist who covers the Heat wrote about this subject last week and was more informative and thorough.I have been reading your articles for many years.I am looking forward to you getting back to writing better articles and covering subjects before your competitors do. Could it be you are spreading yourself too thin, causing the precipitous drop in the quality of your articles?

Nice to see that the beat writers are just as hippocritical as most fans. We get upset when Shaq makes nasty comments after he is gone, but apparently it is okay to cheer against him.

I could care less whether Shaq and the Suns win or lose. I am glad the Heat were able to move that big salary number and I hope Marion sticks around. If not, more power to him. I hope he gets a ton of money and is successful elsewhere.

In the meantime, it is so much more sweet to dream about Rose blooming in Miami with a healthy lineup.

Get rid of your bitterness people and move on!

In case you didn't notice, Dallas is yet to recover form the 2006 defeat to the Heat.

Memories are conveniently short. Shaquille and Kidd played the petulance card, but they are not the only ones. The sainted Alonzo Mourning did so by flat-out refusing to play for Toronto when he was traded there by the Nets in the Vinsanity deal, forcing a buyout that ended up with him coming back to Papa Pat in Miami. Give Jason and O'Neal at least the credit of pretending that there was something wrong with them when they shut down.
As Zo said when, after opting to go to the Nets after recovering the first time from his kidney ailment, "It's a business." Let's not forget that greed is the name of the game.

Dirk is a soft above average, non defensive player but certainly not a superstar. This whole Dallas team is a joke they don't have character (not even with Kidd) and in general all players are avarage players that may play well as a supporting cast for real stars.

Ira,

You've nailed this one.. Kidd (and his Mavs) aren't going anywhere... and Shaq isn't going anywhere either... Teams that DO NOT PLAY D will never go anywhere in the playoffs... Phoenix and Dallas do not play D.

I can't speak for Kidd but Shaq makes you want to root against because he is such an ingrate. To me Zo and Wade helped the Heat get the championship and Shaq was along for the ride and took all the credit. The Heat regressed and he distanced himself and left. I would have preferred the Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Rafer alston team from 2004 to those 3 1/2 years with Shaq because now the Heat are right back where they were in 2003 before Wade came. Only now, no matter who we get in the draft, we won't have enough of a nucleus to turn it around soon. Riley's personnel moves made that possible because after Shaq came, he didn't care about the draft and wasted picks such as the Simien pick or just plain sold them.

Get over yourself. I bet if you were in a bad newspaper, with bad reporters making your news or whatever magazine look worse, and you had an offer from the top five news agencies in the country, you would say "No, I'm gonna make this agnecy better". It's business it's not a fairy tale, live your dreams somewhereelse. O'Neal did what's best for him, Miami did what's best for them, Move on

I see you've come around. I'm glad Miami fans got to see firsthand what the Lakers fan knew all along: Shaq is not the "team player and leader" he's made out to be.

But I don't pity Shaq. He has gotten way more back than he put into the game of basketball.

Funny criticizing other teams for quiting when your own Miami Heat's Pat Riley is the king of quiting when times get tough ... and stealing glory when it belongs to others (i.e. Stan Van Gundy).
