Shaq, Kidd getting theirs?

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

You root against the Mavericks and Suns not because of the so-called softness of Dirk Nowitzki or the defensive distain in Phoenix.

Unlike some lousy football articles on the sun sentinel, a good article. My interest in the NBA got renewed after Shaq started saying some mean things about the Heat. Now I keenly watch the suns-spurs and it is obvious who do I root for. A sweep of the suns in the first round would be perfect!!! About Kidd, I see the point made by Ira. But I wonder about our double standards (including mine). When our favorite player Zo does this, we don't mind but if someone else does it, then we have a problem.

I don't understand you Ira. You constantly overlook the Heat's complicity in this type of situation. Shaq was disgruntled and Buss took advantage of the Heat by dumping Shaq and using the pieces from the Heat to get back to contending status with a young team. Now you knock Shaq and wish for his failure while pointing out that the Nets in the long run, may have gotten the best of the Kidd trade. You briefly mention Gasol but do not mention how he was tied to Caron Butler since Butler's trade gave the Lakers Kwame Brown who was used to get Gasol. You really should tell the whole story when you attempt to make other teams look bad. The Heat have made bonehead moves themselves.

Now Shaq is dancing on the floor. It was a good move for the Heat to send him somewhere. Too bad the Suns will finish the season 0-4.

Shaq is paying now for his mouth. I love to see him dancing on the floor. No more championship for him.

While I don't defend what Zo did in NJ, I will say it was obvious to everyone in NY that NJ did not want to win a championship until they move to Brooklyn and thus let Kenyon Martin fly. At that point, the writing was on the wall, and Zo wanted out. The same but different. Your comments are fair though.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the Suns out of the playoffs...take that Shaq, you old big bag of wind...

Too bad that Steve Nash will be on the losing end, but that's the way it goes.

The Kidd trade marks the end of Dallas's run, such as it was. They'll be in the lottery before they'll be in a championship game again.

The real story, Ira, is that the league is a joke. Pat Riley excuses himself from the bench when the team is bad. I don't blame him. If I'm channel surfing, and I land on the Heat game, I can't change the channel fast enough.

On top of that, Riley fired an excellent coach to regain his glory (and I doubt Stan would have gotten the calls in the finals, doubt they would have gotten the rings at all with him. But still.)

If Riley gets the 1 or 2 in the draft, he stays. If it's 3 or lower, he's gone.

Assumming the Suns go ahead and bow out I think you can trace the what goes around comes around in regards to Shaq to his first couple of years in Miami. Even while supposedly happy he couldn't help but take shots at the Lakers(Jerry Buss, Kobe etc) With Kobe about to win MVP and his team playing well I'm sure it ticks him off. One other thing I'm surprised a member of a major media outlet would write a column like this since most of the press chooses to overlook things so obvious but negative in regards to Shaq.

Well unlike Shaq, Zo gave his max effort for his team night in and night out. He truly is the definition of a professional. I never heard Zo speak ill of his former team in NJ. Suns have no future now.$20 million is a lot of money

You can't use this kind of opportunistic reasoning to talk all of this the way you think or want it(?) to be. You make it sound like it was all a big smart plan by the Lakers, while the opposite happens to be true.

Let's just set the record straight:

- The notion that Buss took advantage of the Heat is laughable. Buss did not take advantage of anyone. Pat Riley and Shaquille O'neal took advantage (of the situation and) of Buss, which resulted in a championship for Miami in the end.
Yes, the Heat should never have given Shaq such a lengthy extention, that was a bad move, but now that our trading genius Riley got rid of Shaq's contract again there isn't any problem at all.

- The Caron Butler for Kwame Brown trade was a very very bad trade by the Lakers. When they made that trade they thought Kwame would become the next Jermaine O'neal for them. Shows you just how much great vision the people @ LA have.

- The fact that the Lakers got Gasol and Kwame Brown, who'se contract had already expired and was resigned in the meantime, happened to be involved in the package has nothing to do with any smartness or capability on the Lakers part.
It was luck, insane luck, and an idiotic Memphis GM brushing aside league ethics to give away a semi-star player in a "trade" (can't even really call it that honestly) he never should have made.

So no, Buss did not take advantage of the Heat. Nowhere near it. That move put Miami on the NBA map while it took the Lakers out of the picture, leaving them to struggle for years. That they happened to get this unexpected Gasol gift has nothing to do with anyone making smart business decisions in LA, it's 100% pure luck.

The point you're missing is that Buss knew Shaq was an ingrate and a fat slob. Riley did not want to believe the obvious. The facts show that when Bynum got hurt LA was already first in the West before Gasol. The facts are the facts, LA put themselves in a great position after dumping Shaq. The Championship is irrelevant because the Heat are back in the lottery and the Lakers are both young and contending for a championship now. The Heat did not get anywhere near the assets for Shaq that the Lakers got so my point is valid. As a Heat fan, I wish the Heat had kept Butler and Odom and let some other sucker that Shaq off the Lakers hands. I am also glad that ingrate Shaq is about to be exited from the first round again because the way Shaq trashed Miami was uncalled for and he deserves to be embarassed once more.

Lets not forget, with a healthy Dwade, Marion, Haslem, Plus our youth(without the draft pick) and a full camp, the heat is a playoff team, YOu add Rose or Beasley and whoever riley adds as a FA, and we are posied for another run like from 96-2001. Everyone is young, and we have 2 allstars(young now), WE TANKED IT. and wade was hurt, We have a better team then cleveland with a healthy wade and marion, and (pray)we get Rose, we are a top team next year. Look, we added odom and dwade and in 03, and boom, we went to the semis and took indiana 6 games. Add, d rose or beasley, and Brand or Jermain Oneil, and we are back. Shaq deserves what he is getting, but I think next year would be his last hurrahh. Boston is old, we are back next year
