I watched Darius Miles play high school basketball against Collinsville High School when my kids went there. I remember him saying he wanted to be successful so he could get his mother out of East St. Louis, and I was so impressed. As I watched him play high school basketball, I remember seeing a gracious young man...thin and tall, and an excellent example of sportsmanship. When I learned he had been signed by a pro team instead of going to college, I was concerned. Now I know my concerns were appropriate. He was too young to handle the presures of pro ball. I want to get a message to Darius. Remember your original motivation. Remember where you came from and where you are now. You overcame East St. Louis, and you can overcome anything. Look to your mother. Remember also that God allows U-turns. Just because you haven't made all the right choices, doesn't mean you have to continue to make wrong ones. You are a better man than this. Show other youngsters how to make the right choices. You can do it!
