Good for coach Carlisle! He can finally get a good nights sleep. I wouldn't blame him a bit if he didn't take the VP job. Although I hope he does. This organization has very very few people that it can point to and you see nothing but class. He indeed needed to go but the problem hasn't been him. I'm also no longer sure that the organization can make changes to get back to a respected team that it once was. I believe it goes very much deeper than just picking the right individuals. The NBA as a whole has adopted the hip hop mentality. If this market wants this then it will have to adjust. Personally I don't find anything entertaining in it and it's become a major detractor to the game as a whole. You can see a reflection in a small way with the need of dress codes in our schools. Adults north of 30 are turning thier collect backs. And with this goes wallets. Black and white. The whole Imus deal put the problems right in everyones face. There are markets with demographics that will support this however I don't believe this franchise will ever have the following it once had if the things remain the status quo. The NBA is falling out of the mainsteam. Little by little as the Jordon, Bird , Johnson , Hakeem , Miller and now eventually Shaq move on, the hands that they have left it in have not stepped up to the level of professionalism. Time for the owners, management and the union to wake up. adopt the business model for behavior that the NFL has. Look at it's success and results. Bad apples get plucked. And they have to manage 50 individuals vs. 20! So far the play off viewing ratings aren't much better than the Hockey play-offs. It'll only get worse if the make over doesn't start soon. For now, for most basketball fans the season ends in March.
Totally agree with you on Carlisle. What a class act. Here's also hoping he stays with the pacers.

That said I have to disagree with you when you say that the league is left in the wrong hands. If you look at the top players in the league right now they have the same professionalism as Jordan, Bird etc. Duncan, Nash, Nowitski, Garnett, Yao etc are all class acts that represent the league in a great way. You can't compare the rest of the league to the behaviour of the current Pacers. That's just plain unfair.
It's time to clean up this roster Bird and put an energetic young team on the floor. O'Neal and Tinsley should be part of a trade ASAP, and Diogu and Williams should play.

i think next year is gonna be the worst season in pacer history and im not seeing any hope for the next three seasons. Trading Jermain would be a step in the wrong direction because your not gonna get enough substantial tallent to correct our problems on both sides of the ball.
