David, I have already heard of this story, but I thank you for putting it out there in detail. We always hear about all the bad things that athletes do, and we forget that most of the guys are like Cook, caring and giving persons.

Wonderful story Dave...I've always thought that many of the Heat ballplayers are really classy guys and we just don't hear much about any of their charitable efforts other than those of Alonzo and Dwayne (which are pretty impressive)...Daequan is right up there with them, thanks Daequan...

Finally, a true role model for so many to follow; too bad gangsta rappers who are hoodlums with money can't follow Cook's example and give back to needy communities.
Daequan Cook, in my book, is a hero just like Alonzo Mourning.

Trying to hold back tears while reading this story at work. Truly a young man (Cook) who took his mother's advice to remember where he came from, no matter where his profession takes him. If this was a story about an athlete getting arrested or raping someone, there would be a few hundred posts already. Give the young man his props. My prayers and heartfelt sympathy to the 12-yr old's family.

Dave, nice story. It's nice to know there are athletes doing things of this nature. To often all we get is the bad news, which is what typically sells. I'd much rather hear the good stories. They give us all a sense of comfort.
