Man alive, McHale made another good trade! What's this world coming to. We get an extra first round pick and essentially all we have to do is eat Carney and Booth's salaries for a year. If Carney pans out then great. If not, he's off the books next year anyway.

I think it's safe to say that Booth won't amount to anything more than a warm body in the post, but he's off the books next year too. If anything, he can provide some extra "bumping and banging" to help allevate the toll playing post takes on Jefferson.

On to the first round pick: If Utah picks lower than 22nd next year, we get their pick which is a reasonably safe assumption as well. They picked 23rd this year and there's no reason to think they won't be as good. Even if we don't get the pick this year, Utah certainly has a team that has enough talent to finish where we'd get the pick the following year (where they have to pick 17th or lower).

Again, the only thing we have to do in this trade is pay Carney and Booth for one year and each makes less than $2 million. We weren't going after any huge free agents anyway as McHale is wisely waiting until 2009-2010 when

A)- There will be a lot better free agents to spend money on.
B)- The Wolves will have more cap money to spend as some of the bloated deals they still have (see: Cardinal, Brian) will be off the books.

Did I just use "wisely" and "McHale" in the same sentence? Wow...

Let's hope that there is actually a plan for the T-Wolves. They've been poorly run for years. If McHale is thinking as clearly as the article supposes, well then good. But he can't have much more time left to prove himself.

I like this trade because I think Carney can be a decent player if he gets some playing time. He's an athlete which is something we need. Still have my doubts about giving up Mayo, but I like the fact we received Mike Miller & rid ourselves of Jaric in the trade. I'll miss seeing his hot girlfriend. I wish we would have held on to Mario Chalmers. We're clearing all this cap room for 2009-2010........who wants to come here? I can't see a lot of free agents wanting to come to the Wolves & those that do we generally have to over pay for? I don't see all that cap space meaning much. Plus we still may have Randy Wittman as the coach. That's a negative in itself. Just a couple of thoughts.
Just my opinion.

Why is it that every trade the Wolves do make benefits the other team more than it benefits the Wolves??? We cleared space so the 76ers could sign Brand....Why???? See this trade benefits the 76ers more now than it will benefit the Wolves next year... And we won't get that 1st round pick either...
Like *What up* said...No good Free Agent is going to want to play for the Wolves next year anyways

I agree that the cap room is of little to no value for a team like the Wolves. We are no where close to being good and Free agency is only for teams who are 1 or 2 players away from competing. Why would any Quality Free Agent come to MN to try to compete in the West. I hope McFail is trying to pile up these expiring contracts to trade them for something of quality.
