As beards go, it has to rank among the best we've ever had around here. Honestly, it is up there with Honest Abe Lincoln 's ... and Papa Hemingway's white one ... or Rick Sutcliffe's red scrub brush ... or Matt ...

Gooden is very under-rated. His is going to be a large impact player on the Bulls this season. Hopefully he is given an extension

Beard Olympics aside, Gooden is a servicable NBA power forward at best and not part of the Bulls future. I hope that he is not in the starting lineup tonight, and that he does not play center at all this season. Lets face it Cleveland a team with Lebron James thought they had a better chance with Ben Wallace at power forward than Gooden.

Not sure which Drew Gooden you are watching; I would say he is more than servicable. At this point I would rather see him start than TT. He has a soft touch, a few good post moves and commits far less turnovers and stupid mistakes. I agree center is a bit of a stretch for him, but he is very versatile nonetheless. Ask Cleveland now how they feel about that Wallace trade while he rides the pine most of the season. I would hope the Bulls re-sign him after this year, he is a great asset for any team to have.

Don't ask Cleveland about Gooden and bring up an embarrassing move they made when shipping Gooden to the Bulls. He was a favorite here, too....... more than the Quiken Loans guy.

The beard looks absoultely ridiculous...isn't this the same ogranization that wouldn't allow headbands last year? He needs to shave!

His beard and play will never compare to the great Artis Gilmore. Boy do I wish we had a player like the the A-Train. He had a cool afro too. Swank.

That's the best beard I've seen on a Bull since Norm Van Lier, Flynn Robinson notwithstanding.

Add the terrible beard as another reason along with all the tattoos as another reason not to watch the NBA. If you can't grow one that is attractive and neat then don't try. About as attractive as all the too's.

This is going to be a scary year, not to mention that scary beard. It would be okay if he avg 25pts, and 10rebounds.

OK. We know downey usually writes about completely irrelevant topics. We know not to look at his column if we want an ifnormed argument about our favorite teams or major controversies in the world of sports. Fine. At this point its expected. But my God man, Drew Gooden's beard? With everything going on in sports right now, I can hardly think of a greater waste of inches in a newspaper than this. I am at a loss.

Yeah, the beard looks great if you want a face that looks like a snatch.
