"Predictions vary wildly..." Yes they do. As the Heat is configured right now, it is hard to see any combination of Smush Parker, Daequan Cook, Penny Hardaway, an unknown 5-5 PG and Jeremy Richardson stepping in for Jason Kapono, Eddie Jones, and James Posey.

My view #1: As we stand now, we are looking at a similar season to the one we had a few years ago when we first lost ZO; only the names have changed.

My view #1a: Same as above, but with the hope of a surprise from some unknown player stepping up (like Kapono, Mike James, Bruce Bowan, etc.).

My view #1b: If the team flounders early, Riley will quit the sideling and give the team to his protege, Erik Spoelstra.

My hopeful view #1c: Riley will pick up an unknown gem, one of the unknowns already on the team will step up and we will be competitive.

My hopeful view #1d: Riley will pick up an defensive stopper, an unknown gem, and one of the unknowns already on the team will step up and we will be more competitive.

My final view: I'm a long-time Heat fan through thick and thin, they are on TV a lot (I live in Portland), and I'm looking forward to rooting for them again - period.

The only teams Miami has to raise concerns about is Detroit, Boston, and Chicago (which they can beat, if you recall the series game two was the only blowout game the other games were loss in the last two minutes). But the Heat will do fine everyone is complaining about we might be a lottery pick I disagree. I actually think they will come in first in their division and be one of the top 3 teams in the east. Yeah many teams have made some moves but none good enough to contend for best in the conference or championship. The Heat still has the most dominant figure in the NBA in Shaq. He may not put monstre numbers up but with his presence he brings out everyones level of play to another level on the court with him just remember the past 2 seasons when he absent compared to when he plays. Just remember the last 25 games last season when Wade was out thats when the team confidence was at it highest. The heat will do fine and surprise all the pessimists.

I think we will do OK. Not great, but we will make the playoffs and make some noise while we're their. And then we will get booted in the ECF.

i am more worries about Chicago than Boston because heats just do not match up well with them at all...

I have great respect for Riley and know that he will give his best with what he's got. But, without additional tallent were in for a long season. I would hate to see Shaq and Wade waste this season.
