Fleming is another in the long line of UH basketball idiots thinking he has the skills and ability to play in the NBA.

He doesn't even come close in making the grade for the NBA.

What is this guy thinking???? He has too many down sides right now which he needs to work on, like the coach says. It would be different if his performance was stellar this past season, then I would say, go young man, but it seems he's just reaching and grabbing, hoping that he might a have a very long shot to be picked up,(very unlikely). Seems like he's not happy at UH and just wants out. If he had the supporting cast, I'm sure he wouldn't want out.

What a stupid mistake Flemmings is making. He should realize he is only a average D1 player on a team that has all D2 or worse players. For Nash, he knows his future is in the hands of Flemmings and the 2 recently recruited Guards. By the way, Jim Donovan, you could have made a statement by canning Nash. It shows you are only in it for the money and scared to make a controversy call. Besides the Nash situation, JD is still sitting on the Bolla situation. I say Fire JD NOW!!! He is the second coming of Hermie Frazier.

English, Kuebler, Gaines were great basketball players for UH. I thought they had the potential to play in the NBA.

Did they play in the NBA? I don't think so. Europe, maybe.

Flemings is suffering from something known as "delusions of grandeur." Being the best player on a team full of JC talent is like being...mayor of Honolulu? Maybe he should be at the gym working on his jump shot instead of fantasizing about being drafted. And what's with Coach Nash? Does he think he's going to find some new players at the Final Four? Shouldn't he be out recruiting instead of cruising in Detroit? That's like an accountant going on vacation the second week of April. I guess he gives having a good time higher priority over getting the job done. What a surprise.

wait for williams to come in and i'm sure you will have more looks at better shots and the game will become fun to play again.....playing basically every game short one man without a true point guard is no way to be judged.

Flemmings obviously has not seen Hoop Dreams. Who knows, maybe the kid makes an NBDL roster, and gets a cup of coffee in the NBA. Maybe, like many before him, plays in Europe, makes a few bucks and lives, La Dolce Vita...
In terms of Donovan, no doubt a windbag... Doing nothing different per se than Frazier, and still does not get it, until his Men's Basketball and Baseball teams start drawing more paid attendance, his Athletic Program like many in D-1, will be sucking wind in terms of revenue... He took the television money from Raycom, and giving the fair weather local "fans" in Hawaii an option to sit in the living room and watch ALL the games, or come on out to The Stan or Murakami in person, is a no brainer for most... Bob Nash, is a good man and deserves the respect of the Hawaii community. Mike Trapasso is a good college baseball man, who has done his best. That said, college sports at the D-1 level is about performance starting with the W-L and number of butts in the buckets. Given that simple criteria, Donovan is not making the tough choices and doing what needs to be done at the top of both programs... Same old same old political BS in Manoa...

Somebody needs to slap some reality into this kid and wake him up... i think he's smoking the carl english crackpipe!! As for Nash, he's a really nice guy, very caring with plenty aloha, but that doesn't mean he's a good coach. JD needed to clean house and bring in a new regime. Now the program will struggle for another year or two. I'll still support the b-ball team, but i'm not sure if the rest of the bandwagon state can say the same.

good luck to rod. smart that he's not getting the agent.
i agree with coach. it'll do him good to come back for another year and develop. if our new guards turn out as promised, our team will be good and so will our record. more national attention will be given to us which will help rod's cause next year.

its actually very common for juniors who want to get their name out to enter the nba draft. as long as he doesn't hire an agent, he'll most likely be back. I can't see why he wouldn't want to test the waters since it is his dream to make the NBA. Also, when he realizes he won't be drafted this year, he'll get back valuable evaluation from scouts in ways to improve. Probably better coaching than what coach Nash and staff give him :P

Kudos to Nash for getting Dwain Williams though. That's a good first step to drawing some talent around Flemmings.

While I agree that Fleming is far from being ready for the NBA he should be allowed to pursue his dream. The fact he did not hire an agent should give everyone an indication that he doesn't really think he is ready but this is a measuring stick on how far away he really is. I don't think he is a fool. Also, I think your quote maybe a little off....
'A fool who tries to fool a fool, only fools himself

When Flemings chose UH over Kentucky I suspected it was strictly for his NBA aspiration quest. This announcement was absolutely no surprise for me despite his earlier comment at the end of the season that he was comming back. He came to UH with the thoughts of being the "BIG Fish" in a little pond versus at Kentucky where he would be a "little fish" in a Big pond. Meeks makes him look like a D1 wannabe, look at Meeks body, his quickness & fluidity!

Rod, stop smoking the stuff for a Pipe Dream. You need to gain about 10 to 15 pounds of pure muscle to go up against the "MEN" of the NBA, not to mention refining your game! I have been watching so many great games in the NCAA tournament and there are definitely at least 20 guys I saw at the 2 & 3 position that you could not even hold their jock. Get real, if you go out early the only place you will end up will be somewhere in Europe!

It's good to dream, at least he's smart enough to not hire an agent. I agree with those who say he's nowhere close to being an NBA player.

Give the kid a break! You all loved him when you first saw him. You wished, "now if only UH could run a Memphis-style offense ..." Then the rest of the season happened and you didn't get your wish or anything close to it! Be honest, did UH's "offense" showcase the kid? If the offense doesn't change, how can the kid "continue to work and improve" his game for the pros? It's too late to transfer to Kentucky now. Can you blame the kid for wanting out of UH?

Rod's body is perfect for NBA. He's athletic enough but doesn't have the intensity or work ethic. He'll be drafted next year for sure. This year is a stretch though.
