If Paxson doesn't make a move before the deadline, then it is Paxson who must go.
Here's the trouble: We've seen the same core produce the same results. Why is Pax trying to trade Hughes for scrubs? That won't make the Bulls a playoff team this season, or ever. Why does he continually overvalue some rather decent but otherwise unremarkable players? You see evidence of it in both the contract dollars (Nocioni, Hinrich, Deng), and you see by the lack of player movement from the core.
It is high time to trade Hinrich and Nocioni. They are nice solid players, but hardly keepers. You don't build teams around either, and their contracts are high relative to what they produce. But they have value to more mature teams... unlike Hughes, who has zero value.
We need a real inside scoring presense. I hope Pax picks up the phone, and offers Gordon, Hinrich and Nocioni for Brand, as Phili likely regrets that signing. If Phili says no, Pax should give Los Angeles a call and offer Hinrich and Nocioni for Odom and Farmar. If all else fails, Pax should see if David Lee is available from the Knicks for Hinrich. Though I like Lee, he's a distant third to Brand and Odom. Just pick up the phone, Pax. The Eastern Conference has gotten stronger, and we've refused to keep up.
