D-League works for Pacers' Owens

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

The thought never crossed Andre Owens' mind. Owens could have followed the money over the ocean and played professionally in Europe after being released by Golden State before the start of last season.

I remembr Andre in high school, He played against a mediocre Southport High School team in the sectional and lost. Not because of him. He had a thunderous dunk during that game that made me feel he had more to give than high school ball. At the end of the game he was crying. I could tell he thought it was his fault and that they should have gone farther. He has. Good for him.

I'm starting to feel better about these signings, especially about Rush and Owens - two guys who pretty much were out of the league for one year because of injuries. If they are completely healed, I think they have the talent to contribute this year for the Pacers. I also feel they are definite athletic upgrades to what we have had on this team the last year, or two - hopefully they will not have a problem using their athleticism on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm starting to get positive about this season as well. This kid is going to have to work his rear off to make this squad. These kids deserve a second chance to play in the NBA. I will pay to see a working mans team. A team that is hungry to play and win. We haven't had that in a while. Maybe some of this hunger will transfer to the others,i.e. JT and JO.

I hope I'm pleasantly surprised. I really miss watching Pacer basketball. I don't mind losing games but I HATE lack of spirit and drive - here's hoping these new guys have it and it's contagious.

I don't maybe some guys need some playing time to get better. But does this playing time equal into somebody that can half-way stay in front of somebody like Kobe, LeBron, and Nash. And average double-figures in points and assist remains to be seen. It's one thing to do well in D-League, or Summer League. But its another thing all together to do this in the regular season. But at this point this is all the Pacers have left. Nobody that has a good popular name wants to play here. So I as a fan am willing to be patient and wait. Maybe just maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just hope it isn't a train.

QUIT YELLING. Because players make a lot of money and we pay them to play, that is why.

WELL I JUST HOPE THAT ANDRE DOESNT GET THE BIG HEAD... I GREW UP WITH HIM AND HE USED TO BE REAL COOL THEN HE WENT TO THE NBA AND NOW HE ACTS LIKE HE'S BETTER THAN SOMEONE... AND HE'S FROM THE SAME "HOOD" THAT I'M FROM... SO I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE ONE OF OUR OWN MAKE IT TO THE LEAGUE AND PLAY FOR THE PACERS... HOPEFULLY THEY'LL BE A GOOD SQUAD LIKE THEY USED TO BE WHEN REGGIE WAS THERE.

In fariness, can anyone stay in front of these guys you mentioned? I think not, why should a guy who is just entering the league be expected to stay in front of them? The question is, can they make it tough for them..

Andre Ownens was just a thug in high school. He was able to coast through because he was going to be "Bobby's ballboy" at IU. I hope the Pacers cut him soon.

Seriously...

Me & Many of my friends Helped Raise Andre on the Court along with the Best Coach each and everyone of us had..

We willingly sacrificed our hopes of playing time and the rest to help Andre Get the Chance to Play in the Big Games, and it has paid off...

The guy still shoots 1,000 jumpers a day and is one of the only people in the NBA to actually play DEFENSE...

Get off the man's Back, he is on to bigger and better things, and to set the record straight, HE'S NEVER TURNED HIS BACK ON US...Because we believe in him and share a friendship with him..

B.T.W....The Jazz Loved him and his work ethic...

Which all stems from Coach Barnhizer, Love him or hate him, he was what Re-Juvinated The Entire Southside Basketball Program..

Thanks coach & Good Luck Dre!!

Katie Douglas put Perry B-ball on the map in the late 90's not Andre Owens. Besides Owens never would have played at Perry if he wasn't bused in from Perry North. Katie is the TRUE southside Perry All-Star.

This guy is so arrogant he will bump heads with so many people. I wish him the best, however, he needs to learn a thing or two about humility. I have never seen someone so full of themselves. He is better suited in another city, not Indianapolis. David Logan would have been a better fit for the Pacers program.
