Did we miss something? Didn't three teams accused of tanking fall out of the first three spots of the draft? Change the lottery? Why? The system worked perfectly last week.

Dang Ira, you're right on again! I thought the very reason for the ping-pong balls was to make throwing games for draft position less likely.
Hey, Jerry West, just shut up will ya? The heat have never drafted better that 5th pick and they've had some sucess so try doing a better job of managing instead of whining about how the world just won't heed your plans. Great article

The comment: Should Boston's Danny Ainge be rewarded for trading for Sebastian Telfair at the cost of Brandon Roy? Should Memphis' Jerry West be bailed out after dispatching Shane Battier and throwing money at Brian Cardinal and Damon Stoudamire?

rings so true. They have no one to blame but themselves for the situation they are in. What would a line up of West, Roy, Pierce, Jefferson, and Ratliff/Perkins look like in the East? Pretty good to me!

the point of trading for telfair was to get rid of Lafrentz's contract which they did...Boston with their late 1st round pick drafted Rondo who is a true point guard. If roy was a true PG, the trailblazers wouldn't be looking to trade for mike conley JR

I really don't understand why people feel as if the Grizzles should go into panick mode. There is no way anyone with common sense would give away Pau Gasol for a second rate point guard in Kirk Hinrich and an overated Joakim Noah. Memphis, is only one or two players away from being in the playoffs again. This team doesn't lack talent it lacks heart. Gasol, Swift, and Rudy Gay are as good as anyone however they all need a swift kick in the rear.

You should do a little research before you write your column. Portland went 1-6 to close out their season, and shut down Brandon Roy for their last three games for no reason. Also, LaMarcus Aldridge missed the last 9 games with some convenient malady, and Zack Randolph sat for the last 8 games, and 13 of the last 16, for "bereavement leave" and then a hand injury that "was not apparent in Thursday night's 96-92 home loss to Memphis, when Randolph scored a career-high 43 points and tied a season high with 17 rebounds while playing with his hand taped" according to ESPN.com . If the blazers were in the playoff hunt, this surgery would have waited until after the season.

Seattle went 1-9 in their last 10 games without Ray Allen, who decided to shut it down and have ankle bown spurs operated on in season as opposed to waiting for the off season.

Atlanta shut down Joe Johnson with a "calf strain" with 1/4 of the season remaining. The Hawks finished 3-14.

That is just normal pla though. You think if the lakers were out of the playoffs and kobe was at 75% with 5 games left he wouldnt sit out? Boston and Memphis tanked their years even before the all star break. They are not entitled to anything and this was the ebst lottery ever.

i belive what jerry west is true , the way the lottery is set up ,teams like the grizzlies ,and, celtics got screwed big time , and, the system needs to be unweighted. no, the grizz did not tank ,they just sucked on the court ,they commited terrible turnovers ,and, fouls . belive me if you watched on fsn you would have seen the grizz struggle to play.
