It seems that often observers of disputes (in pro sports or any other field) tend to look for problems in both sides' arguments to find a common ground. Well, sometimes one side is just dead wrong.

AV had his chance to sign a 1 year qualifying offer and passed it up. He thought he would get a better deal, but no team thinks that highly of him to pay him what he believes he's worth. He totally put himself in this quagmire and now he's gonna complain about it?

Ferry would be silly to give him more just to compromise with a guy who wants far more than every team thinks he's worth. It might hurt that he's here, but it will hurt far more to sign him to a bogus deal

Funny analogy between AV and the unio worker. If only he just wanted health coverage for his family.

Maybe Ferry was visiting Brazil so that he could move the Cavaliers there.

So Anderson, which team is it that is going to give you all the love? Thus far, no team other than the Cavs has even bothered to make you an offer. Get real guy. LeBron wears a Yankee cap and Cleveland goes bonkers, wonder how Cleveland will react to Andy not wanting to play here anymore?

Let him rot. The Cavs will lose just as well without him.

"I don't think I'll be happy in Cleveland knowing that I was the lowest-paid player there for three years and am still paid much less than players on the team that I outperform. Life's too short to be unhappy.''"

This is another part of the problem with Andy. He thinks he's better than he is. HE IS NOT EVEN A STARTER!!!! Andy is no different than many other athletes -- they think they are worth more than they really are.

No NBA team is going to pay him what he's asking. The Cavs have made him a very fair offer for him NOT BEING A STARTER. If he was a starter, he'd have a valid complaint. But he's not.

Get rid of him. Let him play in Europe and watch the phone NOT ring.

Hey old man grump, why don't those cheap a$$ Steelers get a real field so they aren't the laughing stock of the NFL. They are really brilliant by replacing the field the week of Thanksgiving. Maybe that will help them slow down the Patriots. Oh that's right, they are playing on a REAL field in New England!!!

Ferry & Gilbert are cheap A$$es. They don't care if the team wins a championship or not as long as fans fill the Q which so far they are doing. Signing AV would be a good thing on the road to the championship season we all expected this season.

Forget Anderson. This is a one man team anyway. The Cavs have yet to get that comp. player for him -he's been here for 5 years!

I don't care what they need to do they need to do something-signing the wild thing is not going to get the Cavs to the next level!

Right on Rob. Anderson is only hurting himself. He shoud have signed the one year deal and played his a&$ off this year. His market value would have certainly improved.

BW left out the part where Varejao says his contract demands have been erroneously reported in the press, and that it's all just spin that Ferry leaks.

THE CAVS NEED TO DO A SIGN AND TRADE. ANDY ISNT WORTH MORE THEN 4 MIL A YEAR. HIM WANTING 10 IS REDICULOUS. WE ALREADY HAVE TOO MANY BAD CONTRACTS THE CAVS CANT TAKE ANOTHER. MAYBE WE CAN GET A PLAYER TO FIT IN. THE CAVS ARE DOING OK WITHOUT HIM

The only this we can expect this season is more of your absurd comments. Do you know how many other teams in the league have expressed interest in AV genius? None. That's right. NONE. av is paying a price for listening to his agent. Too bad for him. All the while the rest of us live from paycheck to paycheck.

God STFU moron. I guess every other team owner out there are cheap asses too because they haven't bothered to call the Cavs and offered to pay him what he's asking.

You're a moron. BTW...Steelers SUCK. They could only manage 3 points against a WINLESS team -- and that was in the LAST MINUTE OF THE GAME. Dumbass.

I disagree totally - AV is not the "final piece" and tying up that kind of money is counterproductive to creating a championship level team. Now, you can say we don't have one as is - well we didn't have one last year either and to get there we need to get better players than AV, Hughes, ect. The only way to do that is create cap room for free agents or make trades (we haven't exactly lit up the draft in recent years - see Shannon Brown). Gilbert is not cheap and in this case is actually showing great restraint to not just pay the bill. If the situation arises that more money would be justifiably spent Gilbert will pull the triger - if not - I will join you in your assessment of the frugality or lack of, of Gilbert.

We have made our stand and should continue posturing by not giving in to his silly demands.

Has anyone noticed how our shooting % has gone up dramatically without Hughes. Also, the ball movement is considerably crisper. His 15 shots a game are definitely not missed. Those shots are now going to Z, Gooden, Gibson, and Sasha. Those players are all capable of shooting 50%.

It seems that Ferry has already learned from his Stepien moments (throwing big bucks at average players such as Snow & Hughes), but he needs to be a better judge of talent.

Is AV now suffering the backlash of Ferry's epiphany? Here you have a young guy who is on the upside of his career, unlike Marshall, Snow, and Hughes.

If you are going to throw money at someone, I would rather see it go to a young guy who is improving and does many things well. Well enough to be noted in the ESPN article as being the 22nd best player in the NBA based on an apples-to-apples comparison of stats.

Danny boy... just get this deal done, and stop throwing money at players who are in their declining years. You would have been much better off in NOT pulling the trigger a few years ago, just for the sake of pulling the trigger. Better players have become available, and those funds would have been much better spent on quality.

I totally agree - like the article said, he is not a starter and he is a 6 & 6 guy. Is a bench player who scores 6 ugly points and grabs 6 boards worth 10 mill a year???? Play Dwayne Jones - he is hungry for playing time and he will get you 6 & 6 if he gets the playing AV got.

For JulioF:

Have you not read anything between the lines yet? Yes, Ferry's past signings have not panned out, I agree with you, but giving AV that type of money especially next year when the free agent crop will be huge and the following year as well. You want to build championships, not over pay someone who does not start and has no offensive game.

The two sides need to be creative and create a contract that is beneficial to AV and flexible for the Cavs...over paying him would put them behind the eight ball for the next two years. Look, Ferry signed Sasha, so I'm sure they can come to an agreement. AV has had a chance to sign qualifying offer and he didn't, you reap what you sow. Is Ferry playing hardball, yes he is. I do not blame him b/c he is being wise about how much you pay a player who comes off the bench.

This is a classic example of a player who thinks he is worth that type of money and listening to his agent b/c his agent is trying to cash in as well. Remember people, do not cheer for the players, cheer for the jersey...here today, gone tomorrow.

I think it is interesting that you give so much emphasis on Varejao. Varejao has no allegence to a team that made him. He should stop talking sign the contract and play the game. It is that simple. He is not a premier player and the Cavs are winning big without him. I personally believe that the Cavs should continue to play chicken with this player. He is not worth the hype. Daniel Gibson has more heart than Varejao has ever had and he gets paid the least. That is how you earn your way into the NBA, play the game.
