Good article. I am sure someone will come on and attack SVG. Whenever there is talk about the playoffs noone mentions that the Magic have an edge over other teams because the coach has gotten other teams to move up the playoff ladder. That is the one thing about Doc and the Celtics, he has not been to the higher levels of coaching the playoffs yet. SVG has been there and I think that gives us an edge.

I agree, without SVG, we would not of gotten as much as out this team. When the season started, he used an offense based on the players he had unlike Brian Hill who tried to get the players to play his offense he wanted no matter what kind of players he had.

Since this is a players league, by the sounds of the article, if we weren't winning, the players would be chasing him out as coach.

I think the reason Shaq wanted him to leave in Miami is because Shaq can't take any criticism and SVG probably told him a few things he didn't like. We all know Shaq is somewhat a prima donna.

Go Magic!

SVG has the right mix of emotionalism, passion and compassion. BRIAN HILL only had emotionalism and a passion for the game. SVG knows how to rebuild the players after he tears them downand it is never personal. It is called respect which can never be demanded but commanded.

Well now let's just get all the truth and facts about Stan the Man.

No Hype, No BS...just the record.

Head Coach-Castleton State College Div.III NAIA 1983-1986 (very small college)

asst.Coach Canisius College 1987 (one season)

asst.Coach Fordham 1988 (one season)(fired)

Head Coach U of Mass-Lowell 1990-1993 (fired)

Head Coach U of Wisc-Madison 1994 (fired)

1995 Miami Heat Front Office for 10 years, then asst. Coach.
Miami 2003/2004-Head Coach (42-40 record)

Head Coach Miami 2004/2005 (59-23 record) Riley got Shaq that year!

Head Coach Miami 2005/2006 (record 11-10) Fired.

2007 Back to the office!

Without Shaq and D-Wade this is the record of no more than a coach that might be considered for a mediocre college position.
Maybe the Magic are destined to be a mediocre NBA team until their demise/or move to another city.
No offense to SVG...he just was and is over-hyped.
The only thing in his favor is he's a better alternative than Brian Hill, LOL.

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

No BS, just the facts:
JJ is a third string guard on this team, under Hill and Van Gundy.

There are twelve players on a NBA team, that means that there are/were four guards that the Magic consider more effective than JJ.

Bottom line: he's the 5th guard on a 12 man roster.

And yet he's LMAO's hero.

Kinda sad and pathetic

LMAO - Well you did your homework...good for you! However none of that matters now. What his record was 10-15 years ago does not sum up the man. All I know is he get the most out of the players and refuses to let them under achieve. What more do you want from him?

I agree with you entirely. As I recall all the praises are "the Magic have finally done something since way back in the Shaq era."
Interesting that the only time VanGundy coached worth a crap was when he had Shaq.
He will only last here as long as Dwight wants him here.
Most of the Players will admit he's an obnoxious pain in the as**. Hang in there, he's Fired Material Again , lol.

Bob I like you alot, really! But the players got into the playoffs, not SVG. Remember the games that they should have won against the worst teams. Well sorry to inform you but each loss like that had been preceded by SVG blowing up and doing his manical, whiney, complaining attitude. Hence, they showed him who is really in charge.

You answered your own defense of Ron Jeremy... he is no better than his players, who this year are overachievers.
The most glaring comparison between Jackson, Riley etc; is they have never been Fired from a majority of, or ANY jobs in basketball. Get a life Idiot boy.
P.S. Study up some , ok?
afford aol?

people is japan get a t1 internet connection for 33 cents a month and this person is so educated and wise he brags about dumping money down the toilet using AOL.

holy shit man

and in your studying i see you have studied on how to avoid the question at hand

what is riley's record sans his suerstars

and what is jacksons record sans his superstars?

Bud's used this "only I am successful enough to afford AOL" line before. I can't quite explain his logic. Perhaps Bud is impressed that AOL allows you several different names, and that helps him keep his multiple identities straight.

Remember Carol, the cultural Anthropology major/lawyer? And that "she" didn't have a clue about either topic?

My guess is that since Bud hates blacks, the NBA, and every Magic player except JJ, he doesn't actually watch the games.

Why does he post endlessly, under idiotic names and identities such as Happy Pappy?

Who cares... certainly you'd think that he'd give up expecting to get many people to agree with his "really white guy's" love of a really white player. But he doesn't.

Sorry, you got your "facts" all wrong. The only time Stan was ever fired was from the University of Wisconsin and that was all political. The University wanted a new arena and a big-time donor wanted a friend of his to be the coach. He offered big money in exchange for his friend getting the coaching job.
