Rafer Alston trade huge coup for Magic GM Smith, puts Orlando b...

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Here's what we can say with almost absolute certainty: This will work out much better than the last time the Magic dealt for a point guard from Houston.

I have to agree on this article! Great move by OTIS.... At the very least, Skip 2 my Lou is an upgrade over both Lue and Johnson. He also provides great intensity and defense with a solid three point shooting. Great Steal OTIS!!
But, before dreaming of a championship ring we should allow the magic to play together and mesh well. It would certainly take some time before the "RAFER effect" takes place.... So be patient guys...GO MAGIC!

I am a Houston Fan, and just want to say, dang this sucks! What a shock to all of us here in H-Town! Skip was one of my favorite players, and you guys will love him; he runs a team well. Really, we all wish we could give you back T-Mac. What a bad week for Houston fans! We're gonna miss you Rafer, good luck and beat the heck out of the Cavs and Celtics.

Welcome to the Orlando Magic Skip. We will want you to start another fight with Rajon Rondo next time we play Boston. Oh, and go "skip 2 my lou" on Sasha when we see the Lakers again in the Finals.

Well it is better than doing nothing.

But I really haven't heard much about Reefer, I mean Rafer - maybe even better than Nelson?

Heck, I'm on board I even broke out the Bob Marley 8 track.

Well that's fine, except for one thing. On the Houston Chronicle message board, few fans were crying about the trade. Most consider Alston a very mediocre PG, and several called him one of the worst in the league. Usually it's the hometown fans that know a player best, perception around the league is wrong, as often as not. (And we all know that Bianchi is wrong all the time.) Yes, this trade is better than doing nothing, but I'm taking a wait-and-see approach all the same. As in, one and done, two and out at best. Then again, I felt the same way with a healthy Jameer.

I didn't say they liked the trade, I said they're not crying about it. Many don't understand it, and some say management gave him the boot because he's buddy-buddy with Me-Mac. But I can't find one Rocket fan who thinks Rafer is a great PG, or even a real good one. Adequate seems to be the prevailing sentiment, inconsistent is the theme.

Looks like they were against it by about 8-1...just by eyeballing the first few pages.

No one is saying the guy is an all-star. Houston fans aren't...nor are Magic fans. But this was a great pickup for us and we didn't need to give up much to get him.

You're d@mn right all of us Magic fans whined Bianchi... Most of us have been watching our team fall apart before our eyes, so why wouldn't the message boarders make posts about trading for someone when we still have a top 5 team in the NBA...

I mean it's a "no duh" type of situation.

Thanks for the support Houston fan. We look forward to the playoffs and we hope that Aaron Brooks works out for you guys as the starting PG.

He isn't a great defender, he isn't a great shooter, but he can handle and dish and most importantly: He brings heart.

Perhaps just the ticket to give these guys a kick in the bum.

Exactly. He isn't JAM, but he will be great for us this year and even better next year when he backs-up JAM. Rafer/JAM is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams. Plus our second unit will be better next year too.
