Best bet for Bulls to score wins? Defense

The experiment whereby this team tried to get wins simply by outscoring opponents (and not playing defense) is officially over. It is not going to work and Del Negro had better understand that. Skiles had a team with less talent playing decent defense. If this team doesn't start playing D, they might as well trade 'em all (except Rose and Gordon) for a couple of cheese dogs and fries and start over.

Um, hello? Drew Gooden is right -- the Bulls stink on defense and need to focus on that side of the floor. Because they certainly aren't talented enough to outscore teams on a regular basis. Kirk Hinrich is the best defensive player on the Bulls -- and it isn't even that close. Sefolosha is the only other player on the team who plays strong defense on even close to as consistent a basis. Yet some message board posters don't want Hinrich back...what the hell are you people smoking? You would rather see Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon continue to allow their opponents drive right by then and pick and roll them to death? Because as talented as Rose & BG are offensively, they are almost equally bad defensively. A 3 guard rotation of Rose/Gordon/Hinrich would be better than Rose/Gordon/Hughes -- and there would be no need to play Lindsay Hunter if Hinrich is healthy.

Can you see where i'm going with this?? Knicks get serious cap relief by moving Curry, Jefferies, and having Marions expiring contract. Miami gets more compensation in trading Wade, who may walk anyway, than they did when when they traded Shaq. Golden State gets rid of Maggette, gets a better shooter in Richardson, gritty play in Nocioni and a pick. Now for the beloved Bulls. We get our 2010 prize a year earlier than the bunch in D. Wade. By not trading Hughes or Gooden, we too would have cap space in the tune of some $25-$30 million to divide amongst our core players. Oh yeah, we now got some low post/defensive presence in Brandan Wright for that in/out game we need to develop in order to truly demolish teams. We'll take on the contract of Jeffries who probably won't play but won't hurt our cap space either because we'd already have our pieces set.
Rose, Wade, Deng, Wright, Gooden with a bench consisting of Hughes, Hunter, Gordon, Gray, Noah isn't as deep as the current roster, but the quality of players is that much better, and we can get into that 8-9 man rotation that we'll be using come playoff time. Get this message to Pax ASAP. Go Bulls!!!!!!!!!!

Why would Miami want any of those guys for Wade? Nobody wants to pay Maggette $9 mil for 5 years. That's almost as bad as a Ben Wallace or Larry Hughes contract. Plus, it's not a foregone conclusion that Wade is leaving anyways.

The outgunning the other team only works if you have big guns. But it sucks if the other teams guns are bigger.
