I wish they could have landed an assistant coach with more wins as a Head Coach than Bickerstaff or a more decorated resume like Tom Thibedeau. Sounds a bit like how they do in the summer league could be an indicator of at the very least how they will fair in the early season.

Let's go Pax this team needs major help still!!!

Vinnie will surprise many people in how he will handle this young team. With Bickerstaff and hopefully Del Harris on board, this is a very good staff!

Vinny should be an assistant and the head should be a veteran coach.

The reason Vinny's coaching the Rookie League team is not to "start teaching and implementing what he wants to do", it's to allow him to coach his first game of his entire life before he coaches an NBA game. That's pathetic. The guy has literally never, ever called a timeout or a change in defenses in a capacity as a choach. Not for a college team. Not for a highschool team. Not for 6 year olds.

So he gets a crash course in coaching in the rookie league 4 months before the NBA season. This is pathetic. It's be sad and laughable if the Memphis Grizzlies did this. This is the Chicago friggin Bulls and it's just sad and sad.

Calm down Crafty b! Don't get soooo sad! You paint it as if the Bulls hired a plumber to coach the team. This guy was a NBA player for 11 years! He played 6 years under Popovich in San Antonio. Lou Boudreau was 25 years old when named player-manager of the Cleveland Indians, he did very well with no previous experience of managing. Bill Russell was named player-coach at 32, with no previous coaching experience. He did well. And like these, there are other examples! I rather have a new guy, a guy with a history of getting along with people, a good guy than a recycled coach. Give the guy a chance.

Wow, Crafty b. Typical Chicago crotchety sports fan. I for one and going to be optimistic about this until I have reason to be otherwise and I won't be getting a reason until after the season starts. VDN has played basketball and has been around in other aspects of the league for a while. He isn't new to the sport. He will probably be a players coach and that is what we've needed after the terse, passive aggressive coaching style we've had for a number of years that has not been working with our young guys. Let's give them a chance and stop living up to the Chicago stereotype.

If counsin Vinnie doesn't works out, then Pax has to go, but I'm willing to give him a chance, since he knows the pro game more than Tim Floyd did at this stage. Derrik Rose will succeed, just give him time.

I hope y'all are right. I'd be glad to play the role of the crotchety, wrong Chicago Bulls fan..... but if Vinny Del Negro mismanages the last 2 minutes of multiple games in the next season and it costs the Bulls playoff positioning or even a spot in the playoffs, I'll be pissed. This is not a ready-made championship contender. This team has an identity crisis and I hope I'm wrong in thinking that we need someone who's been around the block a few times to know which buttons to push.

I feel this coach hiring will be the end of Pax (and I loooooove Pax.... I was quoted saying that I wanted a poster of him over my bed after he drafted Thabo and Tyrus as that was my preferred picks that year). This may have been a better choice of coach if there was solid leadership on the floor, but that's just not the case with this team yet. And don't tell me Derrick Rose is solid leadership in the floor just yet.. he's a rookie.

My prediction is that Vinny D will be a burnout here, a good coach later one, and the Bulls will achieve their potential with the next coach and a veteran Derrick Rose.

And by the way, I'm not saying Tyrus was a great pick, hindsight being 20/20 and all... I'm admitting I missfired on that one too.... but I DID worship at the temple of pax the day after draft day a couple years ago.

Bill Cartwright was a player's coach.... these primadonnas don't nead players coaches. they need a man. Skiles will do well in Milwaukee. He's a good to great coach and they got a big A+ in the draft of Joe Alexander and trade for Richard Jefferson. Watch Scott Skiles become a fixture in Milwaukee and maintain that small-market team into the upper echelon (much like Jerry Sloan in Utah). The Milwaukee Bucks have set themselves up well for the long term.

Crafty ... Tyrus WAS a bad pick == given the previous style of play. They had him standing around screening for BG and Luol. When Tyrus started doing some slashing to the rim his game changed, just like Noah's did. While the team is a bit guard heavy, I think that there is an interesting mix of players here that will play the uptempo game well.

The problem with Skiles wasn't that he was too tough on the team. It was that he wanted to play a style of basketball that did not conform to the players he had. It didn't make any sense. Skiles will be great for Milwaukee for a year, maybe two, and then he'll go back to pattern - lose the team and leave.

I like the pick.

As a mere 19 year old Rose had the rest of his teammates doing what he told them to do in the NCAAs and for the most part his decisions were fine. It's WAY past time for Noah and Thomas to grow up, and Rose has demonstrated much more maturity than they have so far.

More wheeling and dealing to be done, though - way too many guards and free agency coming up, one solid PRO in the frontcourt would be a good idea. I think the Bulls have some good talent but there is some deadwood on the team and Pax has to identify it and get rid of it.

People are missing the point. Rose will probably take about three years, same with any top pg, to mature into his position. By selecting him we are admitting we are committed to that time frame to developing the team. That's why we hired a young players coach like VDN and why we will likely wait until the big year Wade, Bosh, and LeBron and company are available to make a big trade. We have the time. I am expecting entertaining basketball the next few years (nothing can be worse than last season after all), but the Bulls seem to be setting themselves up for a run in future years, not right now. Just look at the average age of the players. They will be in their prime in a few years. That's how I am judging their moves right now and they seem to be on target for that. Not for a championship push this year.

I hope the Bulls and Rose's brothers see to it that he continues his college education in the offseasons.

He's too good of a kid to be a one-dimensional gym rat.

Why do you all expect Rose to step out on the court day 1 and take over the team? Won't happen. Remember Deron was a number 2 pick and he really struggled his first year even got benched for a couple weeks. Vinny is a GREEN coach and will probably mismanage a few games leading to losses. All this said as of right now they are the fourth best team in the division and will struggle to make the playoffs. Detroit, Cleveland and the Bucks are all more talented than this roster. So unless they overcome a rookie coach and the same roster + another guard to overachieve like crazy they probably won't even make the playoffs...

IF major roster changes are made like a sign and trade for Brand that would change things but don't expect much from this bunch of losers. Remember Pax just wants to develop talent not trade "his guys."

Good Luck Vinny your going to need it!
