1 Nick Punto saved the game with a spectacular play in the eighth inning. He also started the four-run rally against Greinke in the sixth. To all the posters who have been critical of Young and Punto all season long: Instead of embarrassing yourselves any further, give them the credit they deserve. They have both played a big part in the Twins' recent surge into first place. |

I love it when we get analysis like this, whether from the player, manager, or writer. It makes being a sports fan into being a student of the game, and not just a rooter. I love the inside of any craft, whether it be boat building or accounting or baseball. Thanks, PP, for this kind of analytical article.

1 It's too bad that Zack Greinke has to go through life with a name like Zack Greinke. |

It was a great TEAM victory. Yes, the bats of Mauer, Cuddy, Delmon were alive. But we also needed Punto getting on base and Denard batting him over. And Cabrera led the way in getting a hit off Greinke ... have to chip away so others can see his pitches.
The infield was solid. Nathan came up huge -- with some GREAT help from Denard on that catch in right. Overall, it was an incredible game played with great heart. Watching the Sox-Tigers later, it was as though the Tigers were the living dead -- such a contrast to the emotion with which the Twins are playing. |

Oh, and Blackburn was nothing short of sensational. Wow, Nick, the last 2 games have shown what a stud you are.

1 Young's blind squirrel finds a nut routine is too little, too late. If he had carried his weight all along, there wouldn't be any concern this past week - we'd be in front by 10 games. |

Nice to see Delmon Young smiling again.

Mauer's at-bat really was what broke Greinke. It shook him up just enough. Kubel got lucky deep to the opposite field, then he brushed Cuddyer to put him on. Greinke must have forgotten about Young's swing at every first pitch strategy. At any rate, these past few games have been a team effort. Young and Punto do deserve a lot of credit. Cabrera has been a real spark plug, too, and Span made an outstanding catch in the 9th for Nathan. We're on to the one game play-off, this time at the dome. Let's hope the magic holds. The Twins sure looked pumped up today. Allowing KC to tie the score late yesterday then with Cuddyer's game winning homer--it might have been a better victory for the Twins than winning 4 to 1.
As usual, the Twins people will notice that all the press attention goes to Detroit. Few people will be happy if the Twins make the play-offs. It's so nice to do the unexpected and stick it to the media and to the teams with the salaries. Twins ownership out to realize now how little it would take for this team to win a World Series. |
