Remember me, Fred Wilpon said quote "He lit up the room during his interview." Well, I'm saving energy, I'm not presently lighting up any rooms, but I certainly would welcome the opportunity to return as manager of the STEMS. Anything to be out of Texas and the Rangers. Perhaps "Prince" Jeff Wilpon can ask Daddy Fred for the $$$. Easy payments plus more of my motivational tapes "We Battled." My friend Mel Rojas is chomping at the bit to help the bullpen. Mo Vaughn is just a phone call away to solve the first base problem. See you soon at Shea!

This sucks... When it's football season, I look forward to baseball season because the Jets usually suck. In baseball season, I look forward to football season, because the Mets suck. It's a vicious cycle.
If you rooted for the Rangers in hockey, you'd have the trifecta.

How bad do things have to get for Willie to finally be shown the door? Last September's historic and embarassing collapse wasn't enough, but now we are treated to the 2008 continuation of that trainwreck. This team has given up on Willie and needs a swift kick in the butt.

This team is way too talented to be playing as poorly as it has been going back to the middle of last season. A good manager knows how to make the most out of the talent he has and how to use his own skills to win close games. Our manager fields teams that consistently underachieve and is almost outcoached in tight games.

Please Omar, send Willie packing and beg Bobby Valentine to come back here and infuse this team with some much needed fire.

Forget about even mentioning Delgado. he' become an afterthought. Beltran and Reyes are the true culprits offensively.Beltran hits .275 with 30 something homers and 100 rbi and mets fans are calling him an mvp. Ridiculous. He may be the most overrated player in the game. He's either on fire for a week or on vacation for two. Reyes is just not as good yet as people want him to be. He's young and still may become great but for now he's an excellant glove and a mediocre bat. Maybe it's too much pressure for him to lead off. He has a lousy on base % and still pops out too often. Maybe put him in the 2 hole and let Church lead off. unfortunately randope will never try anything different.

Management doesn't make Delgado swing at air. It doesn't make Reyes stick his ass out every time he swings at a pitch and flies out. It doesn't make Heilman serve up home runs. These are highly paid professional athletes who are not getting the job done. Management puts a team together, and Randolph calls the shots on the field, but it's ultimately the players who have to get things done. The reality is that we have an erratic bullpen that's capable of blowing any lead at any time. Situational hitting is poor. Home run production is almost nil. You can blame Willie and Omar all you want, but it's the guys on the field who aren't doing their job. The simple fact is that this team may not be as good as their hype.
I absolutely cannot stand it when people make this nonsensical arguement, that the manager isn't out there on the field playing the games. No, the manager isn't out there at the plate or in the field, but it is his job to identify problems, fix them, and make in game decisions that put his team in a position to win.

You make it sound like poor performance in the field shouldn't be blamed on the manager which is a flawed arguement. If the manager was so inconsequetial to how players perform in the field, as you imply, then tell me why exactly do teams fall all over themselves to sign the best managers to multi million dollar contracts? After, they aren't the ones on the field right?

Boy, I know it's early but I am starting to think this will be the way things go this year. They just don't give you any idea that it will change.

I wasn't a Willie hater but I am starting to wonder if he is the right manager for this team.

Can some of you Mets statiticians out there remind me why Beltran was put in that superstar category to begin with? As far as I recall, he had a hot streak in a couple of post-season series about 5 years ago. Was there more to it than that?

He definately is not a superstar. I guess there are so few great centerfielders in the majors that he's the best of a mediocre group.
