PERFECTLY SAID, Mark. On all counts. Nothing sappy, nothing over dramatic. Classy, simple, inclusive of all shapes and sizes of the Mets franchise. And the 2 videos, Mr Met saying goodbye to Shea, along with the Bruce Springsteen song, were unbelievable. Thanks for saying what I've been saying (I was in the Upper Deck behind the plate -- great seat for the finale): If the Mets had held the ceremony before the game, and my last memory I had of Shea was watching Marlin players out of uniform scooping up dirt from home plate (how the Mets allowed this, I don't know) I'd have been crushed to pieces. Sure the loss hurt. But are we not Mets fans? Don't we know defeat better than anyone?(120 losses is still a record.) The ceremony, as you said, was perfect.
