I think you're a little off base here, John. Why are you going after the other athletes who commented? I don't think they are disingenuous. They are just uninformed or are saying the right thing when asked -- to protect themselves or avoid bashing a fellow player. What does it matter what they think anyway? As for MLB, I am pretty sure they are prevented from releasing details of drug tests and suspensions under the CBA. Almost every single aspect of the current MLB testing program is collectively bargained and they can't just go and change things on their own.
If you want to toughen up the program, they should increase penalties and do more out of season testing. They should also start freezing some random blood/urine samples for about 7 years so they can be tested in the future when more advanced testing is in place. This would serve as strong preventative measure.
But I really don't see a problem with MLB not being able to release more detailed information about the tests. They caught the cheater. That's all that matters.
