Can we now, once and for all time, dismiss any semblance of significance for the modern-day save statistic. The save is the most meaningless, over-hyped, over-emphasized stat in the history of baseball. For a player to earn one when his team wins by 27 runs is laughable. I'm sure the Texas pitcher is bursting with pride, sitting in the bullpen right now. He must be salivating over the chicks he'll get after his unbelievable performance saving the Rangers from certain defeat in Game One.

Is it a good sign when your team announces the interim manager will be with the team all next year then goes out and loses 30-3?

Thank you, MJW....the most intelligent comment/response out here regarding this stunning, horrific game
(along with the very appropriate comment about the ridiculous "save" issue)

BTW.. I didn't see this, but was there NO way that the rangers could find to just slip on out in the 9th inning, without having to "pile it on" so badly??

How low-class.
