Yea, and Kobayashi did what was expected; he allowed baserunners and gave up a run. Not a very promising signing.

we are only 4 games behind Detroit. Eclipsing them is do-able. we could at least salvage something out of this season (letting youth develop and have a strong finish).

Anything short of the playoffs is a failed season especially after going to game 7 of the ALCS last year. My only wish for the Indians in the offseason is Cheapskate Paul Dolan sells the team. We need an owner willing to spend money to win championships, not one who lies to us that he will spend money when the time is right, then doesn't.

I agree that not making the playoffs is a disappoinment after last season, but this isn't an uncommon thing in MLB. Look at Boston fighting to make it back in after winning it all.

I also agree that passing detroit is doable and should be our current goal. Don't look back at KC, look ahead to Detroit.

Because teams have to keep playing, they have to readjust their goals, based upon what has happened to date. What is interesting to me is that they might actually be slightly better since C.C. Sabathia was traded. A number of players have made encouraging progress in the absence of the injured big guns. Even if Hafner and Martinez had played well all season, the Indians wouldn't have been serious contenders for a World Championship because their bullpen is seriously underperforming.
