R.A. Dickey is a quietly religious man who occasionally sits in front of his locker and reads the Bible.

Dickey might be a good long inning reliever and spot starter for the Twins. If Mijares gets sent down for a while, as it appears he needs some time in Rochester, the Twins might be able to keep Humber or Jones, too, depending on how many infielders they plan to keep and whether Mauer goes on the disabled list, which is almost a certainty. Bringing in a knuckleballer in tight situations with runners in scoring position, however, has to be risky with both the walk and the wild pitch possibility very much increased.

I'm all for giving everyone a shot. My question is, is this another example of the Twins falling in love with someone of highly questionable talent at the expense of looking for negatives on someone with much higher upsides, such as Humber? You have to ask yourself how many other teams could convince themselves that 45 passed balls in one game is reason to get excited? Or that easily hit fastballs and sinkers make his knuckler more effective? Or that giving homeruns that nearly brought down orbiting satellites is no significance?

Wakefield has been helpful to the Red Sox for many years, so a knuckler obviously can be a part of a pitching staff that keeps opposing hitters timing off. Wakefield doesn't seem to be effective for more than a handful of innings, so maybe coming out of the bull-pen makes sense.
