It is difficult to figure the passive approach the Yankees have taken toward Andy Pettitte.

Why do they have to woo him. If he wants to pitch then they will pay him more then he or any athlete is worth. If he wants to stay home with his family, then thats OK.
Andy has been an outstanding pitcher ( Maybe HOF). an outstanding Yankee, and let him make up his mind, on his own time. He is not the answer to the Yankees problems. Boston is.

Well stated. I am sure that Andy is struggling with the decision. It would be hard to leave the game that you love, when you know that you have a lot left in the tank.

What do you think that they should do about the rotation? Garcia? Penny?

They should definitely try to woo Andy back but if he chooses to retire I wish him congratulations on a fine career and thanks for all the memories. I am a Petitte fan but he doesn't have HOF career stats. If Andy's gone then the Yanks need to do something. I have no problem putting Nova as the #5 position but Mitre sucks. I'm sick and tired with this no talent bum taking up roster space. Yeah, he had a decent ERA this season but his "good appearances" were in mop-up situations. His "bad appearances" were those in which he needed to get big outs. I would cringe whenever he started to loosen up in a close game. I don't know about signing Garcia or Penny for the #4 spot. Garcia has been hurt alot and Penny got bombed in the AL. I think what the Yanks need most in the #4 spot is someone that will eat innings because Girardi will have a quick hook with Nova so we can't have a rehabbing starter too. It will overburden the bullpen. I will make a suggestion that they sign Kevin Millwood. He can throw a lot of innings. He has been a pretty good pitcher in the past. Maybe the new pitching coach could help him.

Also, I wouldn't mind seeing them pick up Fuentes or Rauch for the bullpen. Soriano wants closer money. We already have the best closer who ever lived.
