Wise came through again. This time with his bat. Not sure if Carlos would of equaled feat if he had batted. Quinten hopefully won't go down as another Joe Charboneau from Belvidere Illinois & of course Cleveland Indians. A one year wonder. Great pitching by Floyd . Sox able to get a gift from Yankees errors .Something Sox defense has been known for this year.

The Sox STILL aren't hitting a lick...
This is about the eighth pretty well pitched game in succession and very little to show for it...

The teams that catch and throw the ball the best usually win the game. The Yankees did not and they lost. As a high school and college coach for over 20 years, I'll take good pitching (which actually is defense) and good arms and gloves any game my team enters into over good hitting. It's just too bad the Sox above average starting pitching (and first half bullpen) has basically been wasted this season so far. Beckham is a flat out BASEBALL player. His defensive game continues to get better. Should be Rookie Of The Year if he continues to play like this.

I also work in the lower levels and have for years and I'm coming to the conclusion that the majors is about the only level of baseball that doesn't harp on defense anymore...
Baseball was damaged when everyone moved their fences in during that "chicks love the long ball" crap.

Gavin Floyd pitches a neat 4-hitter and doesn't get the win.

Usually reliable Matt Thornton blows the save with two outs in the ninth to...

Nick Swisher who usually swished in that same situation when he was with the White Sox.

DeWayne Wise (he of the 0.180 BA) miraculously gets a hit to win the game in the bottom of the ninth...

to give the win to Matt Thornton.

Seems like Mark Buehrle must have used up all the good luck we had coming for about a month in that perfect game.

And, that team that plays in the dump on the north side must have gotten all the rest.

What an elevator ride down the shaft until Wise got that hit. Maybe the absurd script this team has been following all year will turn around again. Maybe that proverbial roomful of monkeys have their Shakespeare manuscript about ready.

Been a Chisox fan over 50 years & Beckham is having a start I don't remember any other Sox rookie having. The kid catches on real quick & a total gamer. Something many of his teammates seem to lack.

It was just ashame that Floyd's (arguably) best outing of the year didn't result in a 'W' for him!
Again, the Sox little 'o' gave one their starters insufficient run support!
(One must give Petit some credit along with some (mostly) good NY relief for holding the Sox to 3 total runs, though.)
Wise's clutch hit made for an exciting and MUCH NEEDED win!

Go Sox in '09

Ps. Dos anyone know why 'The Dragon of Mulberry'(IN) hasn't posted anything to this board recently? I miss his quirky posts!

With 23 homers in under 400 at bats in 2007, Fields was pretty darn good for a rookie, too.

Just imagine, if you watch 2 (two) baseball games a week during the entire baseball season on CSN, you will hear:

10,000 + clangs, bangs, whooshes and swooshes

calculated like this:

26 weeks, 2 games a week = 52 games

200 (annoying) sound effects per game (probably more)

52 x (times) 200 = 10,400

(not to mention thousands of intrusive video effects)

SO SAD! What happened to REAL baseball on TV?

I was up in Minnesota earlier this week and watched our games, and the Twins' broadcast was even worse in that respect.

It is good to see another team`s defense give away a game for a change. We sure needed it. I`m loving Beckham in the #2 slot in the lineup. He should remain here all season to get the extra ABs.......... Next year he will probably take over the #3 slot as he is the best rookie since Frank Thomas.

I cannot watch TBS broadcasts with the sound up anymore, they are SO annoying with the BUZZZZZ sounds over and over. Lord, I hope MLB wakes up to how much damage this does to the viewers' enjoyment.

If you've ever been to a game inside the Trop in Tampa/St. Pete, you've probably already lost your hearing. The obnoxious sound effects constantly spewed from the PA system are absolutely head-splitting. I mean they make your head HURT they are so LOUD. They add NO enjoyment to the game whatsoever, even if you are seven years old.
