Good news for Micah Hoffpauir. He needs to get through the thick skull of Piniella that he's as good if not better for the first base job than Lee, who is close to being doddering. DP Lee is the waning phase of his career and MH is just comine into his own. Go Cubs.

Where's Gary Scott when you need him?

If there is no more Koskie, what are the Tribune writers going to write about?
|

Alternate headline: "Koskie Sets Spring Training Record For Most Headlines For Player With No Chance To Make Team"
Let's get this straight: Per the article, he's not going to make the team anyway. He may have been sent to Triple AAA, where he would be available to be called up. Now that he's unavailable, there's no one in the Cubs' organization who can fill his role. Right. So, then, who's going to play third base at Iowa? And, of course, there's no one else in Organized Baseball who can be had to fill this vital role. How did the Cubs get along last year without Corey Koskie, Paul Sullivan? Glory-oskie! |

I dont expect Heilman needs to worry about being a gracious loser to Marshall. I think somethings up with Harden, and as is the Cubs way, they're being mysterious about it. I've just seen this scene play out far too many times with Wood and Prior. So Heilman can expect to get plenty of starts i'm sure, or someone will.
Not having a capable backup for ARam is inexcusable, as Ramirez has shown that he's a 135-145 game a year player at best. I suppose i'll continue to be a cynic for quite awhile with this team, as i was very dissapointed with Hendry's moves this off-season. I just don't see where the improvements were made, and let's be realistic here. If you're a team which can't come close to playing competetive post season baseball, then winning 97 games don't mean a thing. Unlike it was 40 years ago, winning the most games during the regular season doesn't earn you a ticket to the World Series. |

Here's a thought: Trade Harden while he is worth more than a bag of balls. I would rather take my chances with Heilman. I wonder if Hoffp can play third.

As a Sox fan (but not a Cub-hater), I see D-Lee turning into Konerko - a soft out. But he has more trade value at this point than Paulie, so I agree with the first poster.
Is Hoffpair the answer? Don't know, but trading Lee can get you a quality utility guy (DeRosa type) who can fill in with little drop in quality. |

It's the beginning of injuries that will plague the CUBS all year long. Who's next?
|

It would be hard for Hoffpauir to play third since he's left-handed. He's also a 29-year-old career minor leaguer who has struck out once every three at-bats in his 72 big-league ABs. Why does everyone think he has a future as an everyday player!
