Glad for another Cubs victory. It was another 'as usual' game for this team: a long boring affair with weak hitting and poor defense. Cubs were very lucky to get a W on this one. Whats up with Marmol? Tired or what? Guzman looks like he is getting ready to take over the Closer's job- very encouraging. One word for the $132M man Soriano: BOO.

great that the Cubs won, but this doesn't feel like a Championship team. Glad to see Soriano come to the plate in 14th with no one on - less pressure that way.

Wow, again is all I can say.

It takes a horrid pitcher with an ERA around 9 before the Cubs put together a rally.

Randy Wells needs a trade. this guy does nothing but pitch great game after game and with one exception has left a lead for the pathetic team of Marmol, Heilman and Gregg to blow. How pathetic, 1.64 ERA and he's 0-2? this is what you get when you have a "team" of individual performers.

Shades of 2004; In 04 the cubs were 2nd in the ML for HR, 2nd only to the Yankees but scored over 100 runs less than the Yankess because 70% of their HRs were solo shots.

Guzman has showed some stuff and should get a shot at closer and Gregg should be used as a setup guy.

Marmol on the other hand is a wreck. You don't know what you are going to get out of the guy anymore and has never pitched an inning of playoff baseball without giving up at least one run.

Still another game full of horrid examples of poor situational hitting and poor defense and base running. Just a really bad fundamental team.

Yeah, BOO Soriano! That home run you hit in the 14th was so selfish and lazy! What a jerk!

Its not his fault Jim Hendry ridiculously overpaid for him. He is what he has ALWAYS been: Streaky. He's not going anywhere, so you might as well get over it.

Whatever happened in the WBC royally screwed with Marmol's head. He is a joke anymore compared to the dominate setup man of the last two years. But, besides his antics, the bullpen was nails today. Thank God too. Because the offense cannot get out of its own way. Whatever the case, at this point I am thankful for any win.

Wells=stud. And I agree with others, Guzman can close for this team. His stuff is wicked.

And I am not going to get racist like others, but things going on with Fukudome look awfully familiar.

I was there. It was awsome, cept the part when marmol gave it back to Cincy. Soriano spends more time looking at the Jumbotron then he does watching the game. Dude needs a reality check.

A win is a win is a win

A win to win the series on the road is even better.

What is it with the racist creeps on this board? Wow.

In general, the bullpen did a reasonable job today, giving up only one run in more than 7 innings. It's the hitting that's continuing to be the problem. Nevertheless, the Cubs are only two behind in the loss column. And tied with the tanking Cards in that regard.

It is funny anymore to come on here and read these comments. With the hitting slump the Cubs have been in, and the injuries they have had... the overall malaise the entire team has been in...you may not have noticed they have passed the Reds, are creeping up on the Cardinals, and only 3.5 to get to the Brewers who we know will have their usual slide. When the Cubs start clicking they should still easily win the division. There is that one nagging worry though; 8th and 9th inning pitching.

Yes I am sure we are all thankful this team is only 3.5 out, but it's the way they play that is disturbing. They have no leadership and no fundamentals. They are winning on pure talent right now, but not a sole on this team is really playing great. They have what you need to be a contender, but they need some leadership and direction STAT.

Soriano needs to get benched. His lack of consistent productiity is killing the Cubs, even though he hit the game winning home run. He stinks.

Marmol stinks too.

I love the Cubs, but they aren't very good right now.

They have players playing out of position and haven't been able to field a healthy starting lineup consistently. If that continues all year then yes, we have a problem. Fundamentals will suffer when you are constantly filling gaps with players who wouldn;t normally be there.

i love our three amigos in the pen

Marmol, Ascanio, and Guzman!

this was a rough game but a great W in extras on the road!

PLUS we gained a game on Cincy, StL, and Milwaukee, so far so good on this roadtrip. great starting pitching + what is shaping up to be a solid group in the pen (Marshall, Marmol, Ascanio, Guzman, Gregg) if these bats decide to come around any time soon we are in great shape

Marmol has always pitched like this. Batters know that every other pitch is going to be a slider in the dirt and they are not chasing anymore.

Marmol has been pushing himself since Wood has been gone. But the Cubs have the best pitching coach in baseball and he'll deal with it. The Cubs have the best team in a weak division and will win the division.

I feel like we fans should pass the hat around and see if we can buy a win for poor Randy Wells - who's with me on that?
