Ted Lilly hits, pitches Chicago Cubs to 7-1 victory

Full story: Chicago Tribune

Ted Lilly came out to pitch the second inning Tuesday night with the front of his jersey caked in dirt after he had made a headfirst slide into third base for his first career triple.

Good win overall. Lilly has pitched his you know what off this year for this team. Glad to see the offense clicking a bit, although the struggles of Soriano and Bradley are troublesome. If it was up to me both would be benched, but it is not. At least let Johnson play instead of Bradley, because Bradley is a bum and arguably the worst signing in the history of this team.

Certain players on this team could learn a lot from Lily's play.

Milton Bradley comes to mind. What a bum!

Waiting to hear from the sux fans...usually they are the first to post in any Cub blog...mmmm...

Good game! For some reason I have hope for Bradley...his ego won't let him be a loser.

I agree good day all around - Cubs move up to second place. I'm thinking Tony L. never giving his guys a break or rest is sure paying off for the rest of the division.

My sentiments exactly. Amen. Where is GOSOX from Glen Ellyn? Seems like just yesterday he was spouting off about how the Cubs are in 4th place. Well, now they are in 2nd place, on their way to first place. But it's only June. We shouldn't celebrate until we win the division -- again.

Meanwhile, the Sox will be having a fire sale by mid July. The only good thing the Sox have going is Steve Stone, but his brilliance is canceled out by the idiot that is his broadcasting partner.

Watching Bradley struggle is making me cringe...hopefully he comes out of his slump like Lee seems to be doing.

Where are all the proud Cards fans now?

Great game Lily. Has MB set a record? 0 for 6 with 3 strike outs, a pop up, grounder to third and 1 double play ground out. Leaving 10 men on base amd at least 7 of them in scoring position.

Wonderful Cub victory. Of course there has to be a damper on things. Cubs send down Jake Fox and Aaron, "I'm still a Cardinal at heart," Miles unfortunately comes back on the active roster. It's a tie who takes more called strike 3's looking Aaron Miles or Milton Bradley.

Yo Lily. What a gamer. Actually, what a starting rotation. As for Bradley, whereas I'm not a big fan, the guy's timing was way off and he's trying so hard to contribute. And you know what? Tonight he left his offensive woes on the bench when he picked up his mitt. He could have been despondent and played it safe on a tricky fly ball with a 7 run lead, but busted his butt and made a great catch. An effort like that could turn a guy around. It was classy; he showed me something.

As long as he's a Cub I'm in his corner.

Again Lilly shows he's got more heart and gets more stuff out of his talent than any other player on the team. Maybe those poor excuse for ball players Soriano and Zambrano should take their cues from him.

It's so pathetic that the team plays one of it's best overall games in a long time and most of the posters in here still have to post about the only negative of the game, that being Milton Bradley. A win's a win, and just about everyone contributed. Bradley will be fine. People need to stop being so negative all the time and focus on the fact that the team has now won 8 of 12 and gained 2 games on the division leaders in the last 2 days.

I was encouraged by Bradley getting teed off after a strikeout. At least the guy cares. He also made a nice play in the field, especially for a guy who supposedly can't field. Keep plugging, Milt.

Nice win, Cubbies! I was thrilled with Lilly's triple--he deserves to have a little fun on the bases the way he's been pitching. Bradley will come around, as will Soriano. I was encouraged overall by last night's hitting. Hope they can keep it going! GO CUBS!!

Great game for Lily.
I just read he was a 23rd round draft pick. That's hard to grasp.
A diamond in the rough for sure.
