Jeff, you are waaaaay to kind to many of the players you rated.
R. Hernandez is a D as he showed he isn't worth what we are paying him. he quit on this team a long time ago. Liz started to come around but inconsistency leaves him a D as well just as much as Cormier & Sarfate. Fahey, Cintron and Castro were busts in my opinion but I realize the O's had limited options as well. I'm surprised you didn't rate Trembley and personally I think he gets a C+ given the injuries plus limited talent he had to work with. Some of his moves with players left many puzzled and hopefully he'll improve as well as many of the others that make it back next year along with some young blood from the minors or acquired thru Free agency or trades.

C for Ramon Hernandez??? Are you kidding me? D- at best. Easily the laziest player in MLB. Olson deserves an F. Gotta lower Markakis' grade too to a B. Only A I saw was Huff. BRob as a solid A-.

Overall team grade was a D-. Trembley gets an F.

Trembley should be showing people to their seats in in left field upper reserve, not managing this ball club.

Good article, although I don't think expectations or past years' performances should matter. I'd surely give Roberts an A, and I'd rate Fahey over Castro. Castro's fielding wasn't that consistent, and the way Fahey was jerked around all season by management and manager put him in awkward game positions. The latter also outhit the former decisively. Not that I'd give either an A or a B.

How can you not applaud the all out effort Ramon gave behind the plate? Sure he didn't block any balls or set a single target, and rarely bothered to walk out to the mound to calm a struggling pitcher...but darnit if he didn't always put his catchers gear on correctly. Give the guy a break.

Hard to argue with these grades. I might have given Cabrera a F however.

Luis Montanez should've gotten a C. He needs to work on his defensive skills.

Jay Payton, Kevin Millar, Juan Castro, Alex Cintron & Brandon Fahey each deserved a D.

Daniel Cabrera & Ramon Hernandez each earned an F grade.

My grade on Trembley: B+- no other manager in MLB would have done any better with the O's starting pitchers. Just look at all the SP the O's had - and only one could consistently deliver quality starts.

Does anyone really think the brains of LaRussa, Torre, or Madden would have done any better? Think again.

Because I read the entire thing I think I should comment.

Right onthe mony with your grades. Waters maybe should have gotten a B-. On the Orioles he could be in the starting rotation.

I donot think there is a grade low enough for Ramon's defense

Think Markakis deserves a straight A. Was in the top 10 in AL in batting average and led RF in assists. So, he played well on both sides of the ball. Huff was largely a DH. He hit for more power than Markakis, but that is the differnce between a 2-3 hitter and a 4 hitter. Many of Huff's RBI's were Markakis scores. Markakis is now nearly a career .300 hitter in three years with the O's. How many .300 career hitters have the O's had folks?

As much as I despised Huff after his comments this off-season, he did much to redeem himself to the fans. Maybe the only "A" .

If there was a lower grade than F- Ramon Hernandez would earn it. And I thought Geronimo Gil was bad. Both have something in common with each other, laziness, but Ramon is the laziest. Probably the worst catcher I have seen in about 45 years or more. Ramon must exit this team pronto.

Ramon was often seen with a wry smile on his face dispite his horrendous defense. Why was he smiling? As the cat that ate the canary did he was thinking how easy he's going to have it when he finally leaves the game and heads back home. No doubt in my mind that Ramon was daydreaming at least half of the times he gave up passed balls. But you can't blame him too much...what else was a guy to do when his team is 25 games out of 1st place?

How does Markakis not get an A? Please explain. Ramon Hernandez a C? I tell you what its the Oriole organization that deserves and F for signing players like this. I guess its the culture we live in today. You know like when a kid in school does nothing but gets a passing grade.

How does Mora get the same grade as Roberts? Sure, Mora drove in a lot of runs, but that was as much luck as anything because the rest of his offensive stats were solid enough but nothing to write home about. He made a ton of errors and missed a bunch of time at the end for a questionable injury (he has to be one of the guys who Millar was hinting might have quit on the season). Roberts was among the AL leaders in doubles, triples, runs, SB, OBP just out of the top 10 in hits, played solid defense all year, didn't loaf at the end and didn't put his personal performance above the team's when asked to size up the season. Mora outperformed expectations, but that was only because he was coming off back to back lousy seasons.

B-Rob deserves an A-, not a B+. Fahey got a C-, the guys trash he deserves a D at best. I'm not gonna argue with Hernandez grade, I think its fair since he did end up with a pretty decent offensive year but he's LOUSY defensively.
