Full story: Chicago Tribune

Kenny Williams just made the dumbest trade in baseball history or one of the smartest.

More Nada-lysis on today's trade...

While I hated to see Richard go --and would have loved to have seen Richard stay AND been able to acquire Peavy--you aren't going to get much unless you give up something...

The Sox also need an attendance boost and Peavy will likely give them one...

With a starting rotation of Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, Danks and Contreras, the White Sox now have the best rotation in all of baseball, so it's time to move home plate back or move the fences back and go back to being the Go-Go Sox...

I liked Poreda since I saw him in the Arizona Fall League, but I was taken back with his last outing when he walked two guys in a critical situation and was sent to the minors. His expression showed that he's not close to being a major-leaguer, but he has a terrific arm...

This deal will only turn out badly if:
...Both Richard and Poreda become consistent big-time winners...
...If this Carter kid joins one of the two as a top pitcher...
...If Russell emerges as a dominant relief man/closer along with one pitcher becoming a dominant pitcher.

Should the Sox reach the postseason, they'd have Peavy, Buehrle and one of the other three as their three main games during playoffs where you don't need even a four-man staff...

The Sox could also go to a dominant four-man rotation in September.

Doctor Kenny - I sure hope you are smarter than Michael Jackson's medical advisor.

I thought Peavy nixed the trade earlier this year? Did he suddenly have a change of heart?

Are you kidding me? a foot or ankle injury is just as bad as an arm injury for a pitcher. Its obvious Williams has lost his mind and should step down ASAP.
Four young arms for a pitcher thats hurt GO Padres!! this team now is the laughing stock of MLB. Starting pitching is not the problem its the bullpen yo yo they can't get anybody out and not to mention the results Greg Walker is getting with the offense. SOX fans stay home you deserve better!

on fleecing Kenny and the White Sox. Pisses me off tremendously because I am a White Sox fan.

Both Richard and Poreda have already shown they are capable of being great in the majors. The other guys we gave up, I dunno.

The worst thing is we've given up very talented, inexpensive youth whom we contractually controlled for years to come for a guy who may well be past the high point of his career, is currently injured (and will be unable to contribute until the last month of the season), pitches fly balls in a hitters paradise, and will probably want an even bigger contract then he has now when he becomes a free agent.

Kenny has just proven he is the biggest idiot to hold the title of major league general manager. Sox will never get to another World Series until he is gone. And, he ain't goin' nowhere until Reinsdorf packs it off.

Sad day. Now the Sox are scrambling for a fifth starter this season. This move was not for the future (the future would have been Richard and Poreda) but it does nothing for the present.

Meanwhile Detroit and Minnesota picked up a couple of guys they can actually use this season.

Kenny must be so dumb he didn't even notice that. How are we going to plug all the other holes in our lineup with no room on the payroll. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE TRADE!!! This will go down as KW's biggest boon-doggle, passing the Todd Ritchey for 4 nightmare. Poreda hardly had a sniff, Richard looked great in his last two starts.....SD wanted to unload his salary, I bet they would have done the deal if KW took Richard off the table.

KW, you waaay overpaid. Peavy might not even play anymore this season. BAD MOVE HOLMES!

So glad when this trade did NOT go through in May, then while listening to ESPN radio at 2:50 pm CT, still no word and WSox trades, so I was happy....then Kenny became Kenny again and he could NOT resist making a trade, albeit a poor one.

Figures NADA would like the trade as he is so far up Oswaldo's and Kenny's rectum, NADA could tell us what they ate in March in AZ.

At least Halladay can pitch now and next year for the Sox. Peavy is a question mark until end of August. Halladay is in a class higher than Peavy. And Peavy's road record is terrible. What you have in Peavy, Mark Prior is all about. Injuries and complaints.

And Willimas never talked to the Indians about Cliff Lee?

DJ Carasco starting against NY? This comrades, is the obligatory concession game. Evidently, Oswaldo and KW figure the WSox are going to win the division by such a large margin, that they can afford to give away games.

Jays lost on getting something good for Halladay. His trade value dropped by 50% in return now.

Lets see, the Sox got:

A guy with a non career threatening injury who is just two years removed from a Cy Young award, who pitches in a "pitchers park", yet is a power pitcher who is good at inducing ground balls. Basically, Peavy is now our best pitcher.

And they gave up:

Russell- he sucks. Period.

Poreda- sure he may be a decent set up guy or closer some day if he can develop an offspeed pitcher.

Carter- he's doing well. In A ball.

Richard- a big lefty who has had 2 solid games recently. Nevermind the previous 6 that he was HORRIBLE in.

This is a fantastic trade. They didn't have to give up Hudson. Contreras and Thome will be coming off the books. Maybe Dye too.

Big contracts gone for aging sluggers (minus Konerko), a very solid rotation, and a solid future.

I LOVE THIS TRADE.
