PADRES 2, METS 1: He's walking small

Scott Schoeneweis couldn't find the plate for most of the bottom of the ninth inning.

Willie, why is he still in there after walking two??? and why is the leash soooo long for Schoenweiss and Heilman and much shorter for Feliciano.. The three of them are all erratic and when they have it fine but when they don't its obvious to everyone except for the manager...

I will be the first to admit that I dont like the mets. But Schoenweiss has been pretty decent this year. Look at his ERA. TheMetGuy is just a typical erratic met fan.

A few points from last nights game:

Some of the Mets pitchers in general...including Perez, Pelfrey, Heilman, and Schow...throw way too many balls and walk way too many batters. It's every night. Walk after walk after walk. How can these professional pitchers have such problems finding the plate?

Secondly, Vargas deserves the starting rotation spot over Pelfrey. Pelfrey has no command of any pitch other than his fastball, other teams sit on that pitch, he gets behind in every count, doesn't miss bats, doesn't fool hitters, and was bailed out 5 times last night by great defensive plays. If the Padres had any offense whatsoever, that game would have been 7-0 in the 4t inning. Pelfrey is not good. He struggles every single inning. Would it kill this guy to throw a 1,2,3? He is not an MLB pitcher, and should be sent back down to AAA where he belongs. Total momentum killer.

However, last night is lies on the bats, and awful Schowenweis, who despite a few good performances, we all know stinks.

Hitters - your not facing Peavey and Young....hit the baseball. 1 run is disgusting.

And Schowenweis...major choke job there. Disgusting way to end a baseball game. Walk 2, then hit a guy. I mean...can you throw a strike please?

One step forward, one step back for this team. Phils keep winning...Mets can't gain ground.

2-2 vs two of the worst teams in baseball, and the Mets can't even play over .500 ball. Better win the next 3 easily. You have Pedro and Santana, vs a bunch of bums. Anything less than 5-2 on this trip is a disgrace.

.500 ball vs top tier teams is acceptable. These are the teams you have to beat up on.

The problem with the Mets offense is that Wright and Beltran aren't 3,4 hitters...especially Beltran.

this team is missing a legit HR hitting cleanup hitter that used to be Carlos Delgado. Beltran should be hitting 3rd, and Wright should be batting 5th. While they both have power, they aren't HR hitters. The Mets need a Dunn type player in the 4 hole so this team can actually get big HR's with men on base.

Also when Willie puts Chavez and Schneider in the same lineup....your not going to get much from the bottom of the order. Tatis should have played last night. Forget defense, the Mets need as many bats as possible in the lineup vs the Padres who can't score runs. You put up 5 runs and its over. No reason for Endy to be in there last night. He's an automatic out

Beltran is one of the most overrated players in baseball. To think stupid yankee fans boo a guy who hits 50 hr and has 140 rbi because he isn't clutch. Can you imagine if beltran were a Yankee?

There is alot wrong with this team, starting with the managers inability to make the right move at the right time pretty consistently. What about the fundamentals? Castillo, the king of small ball, comes to the mets and can't even move runners up with any regularity. Man on third, one out in a close game late. what happens? All to often as we have all seen,(paricularly Delgado and Beltran) pop-up or Beltran's swinging at a slider in the dirt. This team is absolutely clutchless. What is the character of this team the last two and a quarter years? Up,down,up,down,up,down. It is simply maddening. But as a long time met fan, par for the course.

He did just hit an eighth inning home run to tie a game, and another one the next day to pad a lead. It's been a struggle otherwise, but I think a big second half is coming.

"Comatose Willie"was not the problem last night. The offense had 5 hits against Josh Banks, a pitcher acquired by San Diego on waivers in May from Toronto. Minaya and Jeff Wilpon have their fingers all over this roster, which is overrated rather than underachieving.

The Mets have a depleted farm system, which is one of the many problems with the organization. They rely on over aged, high priced underachiving players hence they will not win a championship.

The Met farm is much like all the other sports teams in NY "MISMANAGED". The need to win NOW has caused them all to trade away all their draft choices for over the hill and overrated wannabe's.

Wow ! Isn't it something how these guys manage to blow a game to medeoker teams all the time ? I don't think Willie knows what to do when it comes to a pressure game ? You have to use the best you have to stop the flow ,instead of using Wagner he uses Shoenwiese , sure he had a few good outings but here we had a chance to get an esy win and we gave it away .How come these other teams bring in a pitcher that throws fast balls and change ups and the Mets look like "A" ball hittrs .You mean to tell me they can't see the difference between a fast ball and change up ? Just watch the rotation out of the pitchers hand and wait on the pitch ,they look terrible last night hitting. If they don't do something soon to improve this team this season is over .To get back in the race they have to win about 10 in a row and they can;t even get 4 in a row . The Phillies are hitting the cover off the ball ,and the Mets can't even break a stitch .Come on Omar you philosiphy of picking the over the hill gang sure is paying off this year . Alou is out ,DelGardo can't hit his way out of a paper bag. Schnieder might be a good defensive catcher but he's as bad as Delgardo for hitting. We need help in the outfield ,someone that can hit and field.Endie isn't the answer ,he's a nice guy and can play the field but hitting every once in a while don't cut it .Omar start packaging a few of these dead beats and get what we need or its bye bye for you and Willie Wonka !
