Pudge will help, but Farnsworth loss hurts

Although the Yankees acquired catcher Ivan Rodriguez yesterday, who may be sorely needed because of the season-ending injury to Jorge Posada , they did so at the cost of reliever Kyle Farnsworth .

Had you not looked at the Yankees bullpen this year? Farnsworth , though holding the eighth inning role, happened to be one of the least effective in terms of numbers. Veras, Ramirez, Geise, and Rivera all have better numbers, recently acquired Marte has been nearly identical to Farnsworth, and Robertson, save that dreadful performance on Monday, has been terrific as well. The Yankees have a number of options in AAA that could come in and be effective. As for Farnsworth being the eighth inning guy... If you think that his fragile head is better suited for late innings than the other guys, then we really would have a problem. Personally, I think they will do an admirable job of filling that eighth inning hole, and while this will put a slightly larger test on the bullpens depth, the eighth inning might actually be stronger now.
As for Joba's take on it... you should know better than to take into account what other players think of personnel moves. Remember Damon's view on Joba moving to the rotation? They frequently don't have a clue.

Wow, this is the second clown for newsday to lament the loss of farnsworthless. It's almost as if these people only saw the last 9 weeks and none of the previous two years (or the last time he pitched against the redsox). Yeah, I'll miss the tape measure home runs he serves up on 0-2 counts and his surely nature with his teammates in the clubhouse, the fans, and his manager who has the gall to remove him after yet another gopher ball. There were calling him Farnsworthless in Chicago almost a decade ago for a reason. Can't this newspaper hire someone who actually knows something about baseball....
