Roberts fills in for Cintron, helps lift O's to gutsy win

Full story: Baltimore Sun

The Orioles were looking for something, anything to break a five-game losing streak and end a terrible homestand with a positive last night.

Cintron should be benched every night. We he sits, we have a better chance of winning.

It's amazing what can happen when you actually get some semblance of starting pitching. Liz pitched pretty well last night, and he kept the White Sox off balance with his mix of fastballs and changeups/sliders. Bullpen held the lead, and the bats came around in a big way. It was a great way to end an otherwise forgettable homestand.

Meanwhile, the Baysox just continue to win. Awesome.

Gee Whiz, who would think that Trenbley could be so stupid and go against conventional wisdom with a statement that "if you don't pitch you don't win". You mean the O's need pitching? I thought we needed Mark Texiera?

Another gutless move by Trembles brining in erratic Castillo to face a lefty for no reason other than Liz reaching the magic pitch limit of 100 and a lefty was up. Liz was cruising along (3 hitter and just got the 1st batter in the 5th out easily) and had a 2-run lead; let him complete the 5th for Jeebus sake! This a learning opportunity for Liz to mature as a MLB pitcher and better prepare for next season! The O's are not in playoff contention (AGAIN!) so it makes NO difference if they win or lose from here on out! Let the young players LEARN in heated moments, that is ONLY way to learn! Plus DT just LOVES to appear as if he is doing something just to do something. No wonder the bullpen has imploded because he uses them in dumb/useless situations! DT needs to be gone!

Also, congrats to Markakis and his ML leading 15th assist. The guy is becoming a GG RF before our very eyes.

Montanez also continues to impress, as his approach/patience at the plate is a plus. He seems like he could be a 4th OFer for us at the very least, and it's nice to see him making the most of his chance.

Let Huff play first the rest of the year, Millar (240 first baseman) should not be back again anyway. Let Montenaz play also, Payton is in the same boat as Millar. Never bring Walker into a meaningful game! Cintron should not even be here. He is only here because no one else wanted him. Give Fahey a break.

Not to be the eternal optimist here, but even though the O's are struggling and not where we want them yet...do you see that record? 63-70. When in the hell was the last time they had a record like that at this point in the season?

I mean, I'm not saying it's all roses, but it makes me feel good that we're still that close to .500

You want to pay someone alot of money than sign MARKAKIS, Roberts and Jones. There is your future. Don't offer Tex the money these guys deserve, even if he is from our area.

There's no reason to pay Jones right now. He just finished his first full season in the majors.

Roberts and Markakis: Yeah, they should get paid.

Let's see... 2005 they were 61-65 and then went 13-23. Don't get too excited.

Lets not forget that Liz walked 5 batters, threw a LOT of balls, and got bailed out by Mora and Markakis. While he pitched well, it was by no means dominating so I've got 0 problem with Trembley pulling him at the pitch count. Remember that we also want to keep Liz's arm from over-use given how thin our starting rotation is. We also do NOT want his development stalled due to injury/overuse. Castillo has been pitching very well recently - look at the guy's ERA. I thought he should've let Castillo finish out the inning. He's going to take Walker's spot as our lefty specialist next season. Good win last night.

The Orioles have announced that Wieters, Snyder, Reimold and Blake Davis will play this fall in the Arizona league. They have four pitching slots and haven't announced yet who will fill them. Once their identities are known, it will say a lot about the front office's ideas on potential, timetables to the Bigs, etc. For example, It will be interesting to see if because of his youth(20),the Orioles shut down Tillmanor they think he has the physical development topitch this fall. I'm betting Matusz is one of the four.

You are correct! Tex isn't worth it no matter where he is from. And reality says the Yankees win the bidding war. No doubt in my mind Tex is a Yankee next year. And look at his numbers- they are down. But we will get a chance to see him in the playoffs for a month. The Angels win the AL and Tex will have his chance to make $175 million if it goes well. 10 year deal in New York-$17.5 million/yr.

I can think of a few Orioles players who should be eating scallops for the betterment of the team.

We send Jamie Walker free day-old sea food salad sandwiches almost every day but he doesn't seem to eat them (or he has an iron stomach).

Liz threw the ball down for the most part which is a huge factor in his success. When the ball is left up he gets killed. 6 pitches in the first- I almost checked to make sure it was Liz in the top of the 2nd. Looked like a different pitcher. Walks are still up but Chicago is a patient team when the want to be.
