Nady and Marte for nothing? Sounds good. Although it may mean less playing time for Gardner, who gets the Andy Phillips Award. As with Phillips, the team seems to win when Gardner plays, even though his stats don't seem to give any reason why. So far, they are 12-4 with Gardner starting. Last year, they were 32-17 with Phillips starting, and 37-16 in 2006, despite his mediocre numbers.

They should keep Abreu next year and try to dump Damon. Send him back to the idiots so he can grow his hair and go back to being Varitek's boy toy. What about Matsui? If they can't dump Damon or Matsui or both, then they're going to have some high priced pinch hitters next year.

The writer states: "No, the real beauty of this transaction is that, even when the Yankees fall short of the playoffs this season, it can still be viewed positively. Really, it's the next step in Brian Cashman's Master Plan." Shouldn't it be "even if the Yankees fall short... emphasis on IF. How do you write off a team that's making moves, is close, and stands to get a pitcher of Wang's stature back for nothing in September? Why the ongoing penchant to predict failure before the competition is over?

The Yankees have a chance to win in 08, with this trade they set down their marker. Any speculation on 09 is moot at this point.

just so's everyone reading this knows: it's NOT phil coke, it's jeff karstens.
but it was really sweet to read that some AL scout really likes phil coke. maybe the suggestions that he's gonna be a LH in the yanks' bullpen next year are for real...
