Some Red Sox, like Bay, could depart in offseason

Full story: Berkshire Eagle

Sure, the Sox fell apart at the end but losing to the Angels, instead of the Yankees makes me feel better for some strange reason. Winning 90 plus games, in a season where Ortiz stunk, Dice-K's arm went dead, and the countless innings that Wakefield could have pitched, if not injured were a major factor of Boston's problems. Please sign Bay, not Wagner. let Varitek go to front office and let's get our shit together for 2010 !

Save some money, let them all go then maybe the ticket prices will come down so families can at least watch the games on regular cable.

I figure that next year's Red Sox will look very different. Say bye bye to Varitek, Drew, and Ortiz.

Boo hoo hoo, Boston's hired guns stunk up the joint and Paperbone proved how unique Mariano Rivera is.

What team was second when it came to spending? The Beaneaters! How'd Smoltz, Penny, Wagner, and Kotsay do? John Henry is spending just like the Steinbrenner Yankees, only he's in George's 1980s phase for level of return. All that money for Dice-K's .500 record is reminiscent of Ed Whitson.

Don't get me wrong: the return of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry is the best thing to happen to baseball in the new millenium. It certainly beats Cubs-Cards!

After those first eight games, you Red Sawx fans were all over these forums, crowing and thumping your sunken chests about winning it all this year. Now it's over and you'll have to play "Sweet Caroline" and the Dropkick Murphys in your basement. Maybe Paperbone will drop by and tell you why he choked.

There isn't a general manager in all of baseball dumb enough to take the bloated contracts of Ortiz or Drew. Boston is stuck with them and also with Lowell's contract.
With nobody in the farm system to replace Bay, they better sign him but he doesn't seem enthused with staying in the silly college cowtown.
The so-called Red Sox renaissance ship has sailed. Back to 1918 again.

John Henry would prefer to spend the fans money on his 30-year old bride. He'll just keep on snookering the fans by putting fresh green paint on the old relic of a ballpark and the delusional fools will keep coming back to a hike in ticket prices to be squeezed in Jurrasic Park.

There are a lot of Red Sox fans with that "It's a catastrophe" attitude around here, and they get mad when I tell them they want the Yankees North in Boston. My God, the wild card team had more wins than the AL Central champions! Their attitude is "World Series or bust," which is just like a bunch of younger Yankees fans who only know 1995-2009 as their team.

Personally I think the Red Sox need some sweeping changes if they expect to get to the post season and beyond in 2010.....They need some solid punch and they are not getting it from Ortiz or Drew....Mike Lowell needs to retire hurt to much and isn't delivering...so they need a new right fielder, a DH that can deliver big time, and a third baseman who can play every day and deliver, and a couple of dependiable starters who you can count on to go 7 solid innings, and a reliever who can throw other stuff besides a fast ball who you can count on for the save...The Yankees are real and are going to be there every year, from here on out..The Rays well who knows ? If the red sox sit still and dont get some good quality in the off season you can forget it for next year and beyond....you have to look at your weaknesses and adjust accordingly....they need to resign Bay no question...go Sox so we dont have to say every year "wait till next year"....
