Teixeira's three-run homer gives Yankees 5-3 win

Full story: Newsday

After Mark Teixeira ended a personal-worst streak of 95 at-bats without a home run July 9 in Minneapolis, he shrugged off the skid's significance, saying his home runs typically come "in bunches." The moonshot he hit Friday night might be the kind of blast to get him going again.

Not a pretty win by any means but Tex did come through HUGE tonight. Detroit is a tough team and are gonna give the Yanks a tough series. Let's see what they got.

Another good, solid team effort! Hughes looks like he's really getting comfortable. I'd like to see him in the starting rotation but for now he's just fine in the role he's in!

Great team job. I've said it once and I will say it again....what a great addition to the team by signing Tex. Just a real class act, modest and, in my opinion, the best role model in baseball for the young kids watching.

Posada has to be the second slowest runner on the Yankees, Molina is first. It is hard for Posada to score from second on a single unless the outfielder has a broken arm.

Posada is terribly slow and I could' believe girardi didn't have someone run for him in the sixth. Does anyone know of a good reason why he didn't, if not just another mistake by girardi covered up by a big late inning hit.

because its only the sixth inning you dont take posada out in that situation with him getting up to bat again. instead molina would be hitting not a good idea

Agreed - I want Cervelli back - all the pitchers were pitching better with Cervelli in there, he could hit a bit, was fast (for a catcher - haha) and he is an outstanding defensive catcher. Jorge DEFINITELY served a great purpose and he can hit, but I want Cervelli back as the backup.

Why would you take him out in the sixth inning for a pinch runner when they are still behind, you wait until later in the game if he the tying or go ahead run, Why? so you keep his bat in there, until they really need a pinch ruuner. Learn the game my friend.

By the way, what was Leland doing leaving Zumaya in the game. He was laboring big time, had thrown over 30 pitches, and today is on the DL, and went back to Detroit. Hell, if I was a Tiger fan, wouldn't be too pleased. Just imagine if Girardi did that...

If the Yankees can find a trade parter for Molina, only then can I see where Cervelli comes back. Not too many teams want to pay a backup catcher the balance of Molina's $2 million salary...

Hey don't forget Damon, they are leaving Swisher in late in the game now and taking Johnny Be Good out defensively. Which is why I believe the Yanks won't bring him back next year, he has butchered at least 5 balls out there by my count, and no leftfielder has a worst arm!

That's wonderful if you're involved in a hot and heavy encounter with Mr or Ms Right, but it won't be such good news if you go overboard about silly trifles.
