You know what Reiber? I know that you rapped me because I said that Jerry Manuel lacks the necessities..But here's one for you..It appears that "let em pitch Joe" the Yankees manager also lacks the necessities and he ain't African American..So much for the racial B.S. Torre knew what was going on and he smartly got the hell out of there..LL

i am so so tired of beltran. he is a truly modern day player. at the end of the day look at his uniform, its as clean as any on the field. we dont want this sort of player here in ny despite his talent. i say move him while we can and get an arm. i never liked this guy from day one.

lew,
this is ny, they love to play the race card here. if you questions someones abilities and they are of a certain group you are called a racist. happens in jobs, politics, education you name it. its called NYC. When oh when can a guy just be great or stink on the basis of talent not creed, color, etc. randolph stunk, manuel stinks. period. has nothing to do with what color they are.

Nailed it on the head with Whinytown USA. Barely into the season here and people are losing their minds. Bitching and moaning about everything. How about watching your team and enjoying it, good or bad. You have NO personal stake in this. Your life will not change if the Mets win the World Series.

I know what Hodges would have done. He walked all the way out to left field to get Cleon. Beltran should never have been allowed back on the field. Don't want to get dirty? Take a seat.

I love how the media continues to defend Beltran and throws out his numbers for the past seasons. When it comes down to it, he doesn't hit home runs in the clutch. He pops out to short stop with the bases loaded constantly and looks at strike 3 in the bottom of the 9th in an NLCS where the Mets wouldv'e won that World Series. Beltran needs to go back to Houston and never come back to New York.

Carlos continues to be a typical, contemporary (didn't used to be this way) Caribbean player - full of promise, clueless about the need for constant, willed discipline - and this for a mere eighteen and a half millions. Nice kid, but self-indulgent to the extreme, like much of our kids today. Nothing poisons a place, a man, like wealth.

On the other hand, there was a hot-shot player about ninety miles south last summer thought he was too good to run out a ground ball. Captain and soul of his team. A much-maligned (in that lost city) manager of the old school immediately removed him from the game (a la Mister Hodges).
The player? Jimmie Rollins. The manager?
Charlie Manuel. The outcome? Championship.
I think the Manuel named Jerry is in a tough position here because of the heavily ethnically-skewed roster and front office. The Caribbeans will not likely respond to necessary discipline the good way Rollins did - and the front office will likely not have his back...
