The first goal was to get to this position now its time for goal number two and thats to take it one game at a time and play each game as if was your last one. There is nothing wrong with playing desperate. Its survival time and every play may decide the game so play it that way and let the chips fall where they may. Go Twins!!!!

I'm surprised Liriano's only 26 years old! He's got many good years left, and tonight should be a good learning experience no matter how it turns out. Go, Twins!

Bad choice starting him in game 1..........should start the veteran ( Pavano) in game 1 even though he has pitched terribly his past couple of outings...all the pitchers have been lit up lately but I would still go with the vet in game 1. This game is THE most important of the series, Twins lose this game they are done, plain and simple so to rely on Liriano to get you where you want to go is very dangerous and a wrong move...but just my opinion and I hope I am wrong...stay tuned and GO TWINS!!!!!!!!

I remember when Roger Clemens was making his big return on nation television in Houston and Liriano was the starting pitcher opposing. That was a huge game and the night belonged to Liriano. Certainly there's a chance that he could unravel however there is a chance he could own the night. He's a different pitcher now we all understand that but I wonder why a newspaper that is supported in part by it's sports section and in turn the Twins wouldn't include that in this article. Isn't that the reason he won the come back player of the year award, because he did pitch like that and still has the potential. GO TWINS, get it Liriano!

why is Gardenhoser starting this clown in game 1?.....He'll give up 3 runs in the first inning, takes the crowd out of it, Twins lose, season over....nice job of managing ONCE AGAIN in the playoffs by Gardenhoser.....3-16 in playoffs.....and getting worse..how long does the front office put up with his post season ineptness?..ANSWER: as long as Gardy wants the job..........
Hope I am wrong...GO TWINS!!!!!!!!!!

way to put a hex on the outcome. personally, I am hoping for this business to have success also on the field for the wellness and spirit of their paying customers and of course the fans. this area could use a little "we are no. 1 ", even though in the big picture it is not true.

One thing you can say about Gardy, when he makes a mistake, it's obvious, usually well in advance. Starting Liriano in the most important game of the season is a mistake, and anybody who has paid attention to Liriano can see it.

I am amazed how Twins fans dislike their team, at least on this site, maybe a few bad apple? Your manager is one of the best in Baseball, your stadium is awesome, there is no choking losing to the Yanks.

I serious doubt they would start him if they REALLY feared whe would unravel?

Could it happen....sure.

Would you rather they start Scott Baker?

THis is all just a way to get him to relax... and keep the fans off his back.

Take the pressure off by saying, you may do well, you may struggle and we know it- can work against you or for you.

It's more about the hitters. If we can't put up at least 5-7 runs a game, we'll never win the series.

Every one who is pulling for the Twins wants Liriano to do well. It's something of a desperate move from the front office and management for the ace the Twins' failed to acquire before making the play-offs this season. Pavano should have opened the series, with Liriano pitching second. The entire baseball world is poised and ready for Liriano's failure. The key: Get to Sabatthia! If Liriano can get through the first couple innings and the Twins can stake him to a lead, there's real hope of victory not only tonight but for ousting the Yankees. The confidence would do a lot for Liriano. However, it's still ridiculous to think of him as an ace--unless he has a big game tonight!

So if Pavano started and we didn't get the win, you think starting Liriano being down a game is less pressure? I think it's a wise move by a manager who knows WAY more about the game (and psychology) than you do.
