I would hate to work for a guy like Manuel. Some of his comments should be kept in the club house and away from the press! I hope Murphy does a great job at 1st and Manuel has to eat his words! A little encouragement might go a long way towards helping this kid. I think he has a lot of potential. He's an infielder and the OF experiment didn't work out. No big deal-put him where he belongs and leave him alone. He'll be fine and will hopefully be the 1st baseman for years after both Omar and Manuel are gone!

Manuel is trying to light a fire underneath this team. No one takes the bait.
Murphy is a shining example of how Omar Minaya doesn't know how to put together a competitive team.

Couldn't have said it better Jim! Manuel is a complete waste and I really do hope this kid owns first for years to come. Mets fans need to wake up and get Omar and Manuel out of NY!

Let's be honest, Jerry Manual is there because of his race. The days of having real managers (Gil Hodges immediately comes to mind) in the Mets dugout are long gone. The Mets have a Latino GM and a Black manager to appease the local population. There is no desire to hire major components based upon skill and ability ... it's only about race. That being said, it would be nice for the fans if the Mets would at least go out and find the most talented Latino and black candidates for these two positions. These two are losers with no smarts ...

If Manuel insists on taking shots at players in public, he MUST place a major emphasis on Carlos Beltran. Beltran admits openly that he doesn't slide when it's required because he doesn't want to get hurt. He seems to show signs of ADHD when playing center field. He shows no sign of determination or hustle and he's one of the highest paid people in MLB. Opposing pitchers know that Beltran is the guy they want to face in clutch situations because he becomes a deer in the headlights. In these situations, he'll go down on three right down the middle without ever taking the bat off his shoulder.

Bobby V's contract is up in Japan and he'd be perfect for this crew of underachieving laggards.Look what he did with the 2000 group, Benny Ag et al.Jose will be running out every play and nobodys gonna miss a base running the paths . Bring back Bobby V !

Manuel is a little too glib for a man in his position. He has not as of yet put a personal stamp on this team and appears small in his manipulation of the lesser players on the team relative to his lack of impact on the more significant players. His team cannot distinguish between a slugfest and a "small ball" game- nor can he by the look of an absence of any strategies for getting a go-ahead run in a tight game. Maybe Bobby Valentine could use a good burger.

In fairness to Murphy, and to the team, if the Mets are sincere in their belief that the kid is the 1st baseman of the future, he should learn the position at the minor league level. Despite his surprising performance around the bag last night, it's just inviting trouble to send him out there on a regular basis without some basic experience. If he were knocking the cover off the ball, which he isn't, some reluctance to send him down would be understandable. But now is the time to get this done effectively, not desperately. If the team is not sincere about his future, then that is an even more serious problem.

A M E N. His tone doesn't fit the circumstances, and his results don't justify his tone.

Murphy plays like that guy you tride to 'hide' in right field for softball games. Do they expect this guy to hit .400 or something?

Murphy is just another in the long line of Mets players out of position. From Greg Jeffries, to Juan Samuel to HoJo to Hundley, to Jose Reyes (briefly). I've been a fan since the mid 70's and it amazes me that this organization is always trying to fit square pegs into round holes. They had Murphy in their system as an infielder, 2nd baseman by trade, yet they sign Castillo to a long term deal. Luis has played well this season, but with a guy like Murphy ready, why a 4 year deal for an aging player?

Hopefully they don't completely ruin him the way they did Jeffries.

Yes the fact that Jerry has the best record in Mets history after managing 131 games really shows what a terrible manager he is. Where were all you people last year?

While I agree with you 150%, Bobby V would never come back here. He's revered as a baseball god over there in Japan. There are statues erected in his honor. Why would he give that up to come back to the team that shunned him in the first place?
