Perez can't get out of third as Phillies win in 10

Full story: Newsday

Imagine how good the Mets could be without Oliver Perez in the rotation. It may be time for the team's management to start thinking that way.

You are so right! He's been like teflon when it comes time to place the blame where it belongs. Willie took the hit for Omar's short comings and now Manuel is in position to take the next hit. In the same period, Omar got a 4 year extension! There's something terribly wrong with this picture!
I think the Wilpons may be taking advice from Jim Dolan.

I have a hard time picturing the Mets firing Manuel after renewing his contract as they'd end up paying both Willie and Manuel and a new manager all at the same time.

Although, the Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla, so one never knows!

I think Omar would fire Manuel just to put the blame on him. Omar is the problem, he's getting desperate and desperate people do desperate things!

Why is wagner taking up a spot on the 40 man roster? Perez could mop up for a while...that makes sense.

I don't think they can remove him from the 40 man roster, especially while on the DL, without risk of losing him without compensation! If he's really ahead of schedule, he could be of some value out of the BP later in the year. Even if they just use him as a lefty specialist!

I can't say I'm up on all the rules but would he even be considered a type A free agent (worthy of compenstion)after sitting out more than a year?

Have there been any articles written in the NY papers exploring this? I suppose a couple of effective appearances could make a case for Type A.

Actually, this team, although with holes, doesn't lack talent. It lacks heart. In the old days, a team leader would cause a bench clearing brawl to ignite the team - maybe with a fastball under a star's chin, maybe with a hard slide on a routine out at second. This team lacks a heart, a leader who will say in the 8th or 9th, "Just get on for me, and I'll get you home."

This team doesn't lack players with character. I love Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Santana, and others, as men. Despite the criticism, I loved the unbridled joy that Reyes showed on the field. Are the days of fiery team leaders over?

Maybe Keith Hernandez should manage, with Darling the bench or pitching coach. They could certainly be a lot better, but not worse, than what we've had. My guess is Hernandez couldn't tolerate today's excuse for a MLB player.

Thats right Takahasi, the same kind of unknown pitcher that strikes out Choke-Roid in a big spot EVERY time... Mets in playoffs 98,99, 2000, 2006... you're a dope and suck at Math... not surprising rooting for a cheater and a team owned by an ex-con....

Maybe he should call Cashman and find out how to be a weasel and kiss up to the powers that be better.. like the way weasel boy threw Torre under the bus and will do the same to Girardi, only much sooner..

I haven't seen anything written about it. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they can remove an injured player from the 40 man roster unless his contract runs out.
